When we ponder the word "strong" we often think of muscles,
Never giving second thoughts to how those muscles were constructed,
A lifetime of experiences, trials and hardships.

But when I ponder the word strong I can only put one image in my head.
My grandmother, mother, the woman who raised me, and who cherishes me in her heart.
She gives strong many forms and definitions,
With her qualities of unconditional love and protection.

She has the most annoyed tone of voice when she's angry,
She smiles with the biggest grin on her face when one of us succeeds,
I often stop to think why she isn't self centered when she could be;
Or why she isn't always overflowing with anger or sadness when she has every right to be,
It's because she is strong and leads by example.

She loves a challenge,
She has fire in her eyes that burn with determination,
And she'll lose that fire in a heartbeat once disappointed,
A forgiving and compassionate woman who sees none to be inferior.

No matter how hard life is for her she complains and looks up to the, sky to praise the God almighty,
She is my grandmother.
