Marcus at the top!
--
The next morning I got up early to get ready quickly and drive over to talk to Luke before school.

I walked slowly up to the front door of his house. I was going over everything I needed to tell him. Zack was going to die. Collin was going to kill him. I saw it. I was scared.

The door opened and his mom greeted me. I smiled at her and she let me in with a smile. After some small talk with his parents, I walked to his room.

I opened his bedroom door and walked in. His bare back was to me. He was looking in his closet, reaching for a t-shirt. His ripped black jeans looked so tight, they were like a second skin. I knocked on the doorframe.

"I'm almost ready, mum," he said without turning to see me.

I chuckled. "I'm not your mother," I said with my arms crossed over my chest.

He snapped his body around to see me.

"Goodmorning," he sang with a cocky smile.

I smiled softly and bit my lip.

I asked him to sit down. He did. I asked him to stay calm. He didn't.

I told him about Zack and how he was going to die. He freaked out on me.

"You have to tell him!" he yelled.

"Luke, I can't. I can't tell him. Darcy and Alec. They have plan. They're going to fix it," I said calmly.

"Fix it? How are they going to fix it?"

"I don't know but they're going to," I said, starting to freak out.

After that, it was just us muttering to each other.

"I can take you to school," I muttered.

"Okay," he muttered back.

It was a silent drive. An awkwardly silent drive. I pulled into my parking spot in the school parking lot and got out in silence. We walked up to the school and to our lockers, not saying a word to each other.

I saw Zack at the end of the hallway. He smiled at me. I smiled back. I wanted to tell him. But, I couldn't. I would have to live with the fact that one of my best friends was going to die. I never learned to live with it.

I wanted to just say something to him. I closed my locker and walked passed Luke to go talk to Zack. He turned into a room before I got to him. Cooper was at my side before I knew it.

"So, are you ever going to tell me why you were with Darcy yesterday?" he a-asked.

Before I could answer, Ariel was by his side. She put her arm around his waist and he put his around her shoulders with a smile.

I smiled and greeted her. "We'll talk about it later. Luke's mad at me. You probably will be too," I said quietly.

He looked confused. I put on a smile and looked at the two of them.

"So, are you two, like, a thing now?" I asked and smirked at Coop.

Ariel blushed and Cooper gave me the signature "I am going to rip your throat out" look.

First period had started and I had tried talking to Luke, but he didn't budge. Saunders noticed the struggle and gave us a funny look.

With my chemistry book sitting open on the desk, I read aloud to Luke, who was staring out the window with his jaw clenched.

When the bell rang I put my book in my arms and slowly walked to the door. Saunders stopped me before I could leave.

"Trouble in Paradise?" he asked once the room had cleared out.
