Voodoo Child
"Sol...I need to tell you something"
Sol woke up with no distractions, which was new, he looked around his room and didn't find the ominous figure in the corner he had lived with for years, which was new. He got up and walked out into the living room to see Enigma sitting cross legged on the floor.
"What are you doing?" Sol asked.
"I'm meditating...helps me focus" Enigma said somewhat offended.
Sol saw a note on the kitchen table, he went to see what it said and it was his fathers unmistakeably messy handwriting.
Out on patrol all day, there's some spare chicken wraps in the fridge for your friends.
Love ya, DAD (Specifically yours)
Sol smiled at the note, he found it weird yet charming how his dad would always capitalise his name, he grabbed the note and tucked it into his pocket before opening the fridge. 'Spare' was not the word Sol would use to describe the sheer amount of chicken wraps there were.
"What's on the agenda for today?" Sol asked Enigma.
"Hell if I know, I'm taking a day for myself so anything you want, you do on your own" Enigma said bored.
"You are aware that wherever I go, you have to follow?" Sol asked.
"Yeah I do, but I'm gonna protest it and be real annoying" Enigma said annoyed.
"Fine, I'm taking the dog for a walk" The mention of the word walk sending Sol's dog onto his feet and sitting patiently at the door as Sol wrapped his collar around his neck.
"Well I'm not gonna enjoy it, no matter what I'm gonna fight you" Enigma said, angry his peace was interrupted.
Sol opened the door and saw Maria walking up the steps, it slightly shocked Sol and Maria awkwardly smiled.
"Uh...hi" Sol greeted.
"Hey...last night was...fun" Maria smiled.
"Yeah...did you...forget something?" Sol asked.
"Uh no actually um...you know the story Lucas told you yesterday?" Maria asked.
"Yeah, what about it?" Sol asked suspicious.
"We have proof...well Lucas does, you free today?" Maria asked with pleading eyes.
"HELL YES WE'RE FREE!" Enigma exclaimed, practically leaping to his feet as he stood behind Sol.
Time Skip
It was midday when Maria and Sol arrived at a junkyard, with Dustin, Max, Lucas and Steve Harrington fortifying a bus.
"Sorry we're late we went to get smoothies!" Maria yelled, everyone's head turned to them and they ushered the two over.
"Lucas, can I talk to you for a sec?" Dustin said as he yanked Lucas behind a car.
"Not again" Steve scoffed. "Alright new kids, grab a hammer start turning this bus into fort Knox.
For an autumn day it was remarkably hot, that and the manual labour Sol did made it so he was incredibly hot, he took a momentary break and slumped down behind a car.
"Hey, redhead stop staring" Steve said, causing Sol to turn his head back to Max, who had her eyes glued to him, the second their eyes met Max's snapped back to whatever she was doing.
Time Skip
It was now incredibly late at night, Sol sat on top of the bus looking out onto the junkyard while Enigma spread out further to scan the perimeter, he suddenly heard the clanging of the ladder behind him.
Max appeared next to him as she sat down and looked at the scene in front of her, the fog was oddly nostalgic for her.
"I...I gotta ask you something" Max said.
"Sure" Sol nodded.
"Why the hat? was it like a gift from a family member, because you like...never take it off" Max asked. Sol chuckled before thinking.
"It...solves my fashion issue" Sol smiled, remembering his freedom. Max's stomach rumbled and she looked to the side embarrassed. "Hungry?"
Max silently nodded, not wanting to draw any attention to her home life, Sol reached into his bag and pulled out a chicken wrap covered in tinfoil.
"Its not hot but...if you want it?" Sol said, Max looked at Sol slightly confused before taking it.
"Thank you" She quietly said, although it was dark outside, Sol could see the blush rising to her face and smiled.
"You can also have this if you want, I only had like half, not a fan of raspberry" Sol said offering her his smoothie, she took it with a small smile and began to eat.
"What's it like?" Max asked.
"What?" Sol asked back.
"To have a dad that...gives a shit?" Max said.
"Does your dad..." Sol was cut off.
"My dad is great...my stepdad...not so much" Max said, tears starting to build up. Sol crawled over the gap to sit closer to Max, their shoulder touching as they looked up at the stars.
"I...get it, what its like to have a dad who doesn't give a shit" Sol said.
"But...Officer Callahan's sounds like a great dad" Max said confused.
"If I...tell you something, promise me you wont tell anyone" Sol asked.
"O-of course" Max said.
"Phil's not my real dad" Sol said.
"Your...adopted?" Max asked.
"I'd say more...rescued" Sol explained.
"What...what was it like?" Max asked.
"Well...I was never grounded...I was more...arrested" Sol chuckled slightly. "I spent so much of my time alone...I think your one of the first friends I've ever had"
"Well...I'm honoured" Max smiled, the two looked up at the stars, without a care in the world.
"Y'know...it will get better, my dad saved me...you just need to find someone who'll save you" Sol smiled.
"Yeah...I think I can do that" Max said as her hand rested on Sol's, their fingers soon joining.
"Sol...I need to tell you something-" Max was cut off by a strange noise, the two hands broke apart and Max grabbed the binoculars. "Holy shit"
"What is it?" Sol asked. Out of the corner of his eye he could see Enigma running towards the bus.
"THERES MORE THERES MORE!" Enigma yelled. Sol's eyes widened at this information, his eyes widened even more when Steve stepped out of the bus.
