The whole school was enveloped in a barrier, including the school grounds.

"Kurumi, what did you do?" asked Shido.

"Splendid, isn't it? The Time-Consuming Castle. A barrier that sucks the time out of those who tread my shadow."

"Time?" Shido uttered.

"Your eye...!" Sera noticed.

One of Kurumi's eyes was a clock, counting backwards.

"This represents my time. You could also call it my life span. My angel possesses quite marvellous powers. But unfortunately, a large amount of my time is consumed on each occasion that I use them."

"Then you're...!"

"Yes. Every once in a while, I replenish it from an external source in this manner."

"Y-You do what?!" uttered Shido.

"They're all my cute yet unfortunate prey. Ah, but... But you, Shido-san... You're special."

Her red eye glowed.

"After all, I came here to become one with you, to devour you in a more traditional way."

"If it was only me you wanted, there was no need to do all of this!"

"Before I consume you, I want you to rescind the statement you made this morning. That nonsense about saving me. I have done this all for that reason alone. Aren't you scared of me, Shido-san?"

Sera clenched his teeth, as she came closer to Shido.

"Don't you hate me? Isn't it obvious that I'm not a person to whom you should show compassion? So please, retract your words from earlier."

She caressed his face.

"If you were to do that, I'd be inclined to remove this barrier. Come on, do not dally. If we wait too long, the effects will be irreversible."

"Never," said Sera.

"Huh?"

Shido looked at Sera and saw the determination in his eyes. And he remembered his words... that the only way to go forward is to break the cycle.

"Never. I'll never give up on you," he said.

She took a step back.

"Seriously...? Even after all that, and the fate of all your friends in my hands... oh gosh. You two are positively hopeless."

She flew back and put her hand up. The spacequake alarm rang.

"I trust you know what this sound is," she said in a mocking sound.

"A spacequake alert," said Sera, keeping his stare at Kurumi.
