After years, Skylar eventually becomes a loner. At school that same girls are always taunting her, constantly trying to make her feel bad but she didn't listen to them. She always ignored them and always just walked off. After school she takes a different route home just do that she doesn't pass the park as she was too hurt.
One day after school she was walking home but she didn't expect the worst. As she walked through door of her house, she saw her mother lying on the floor, and she wasn't breathing. Skylar started screaming out of fear and her neighbor heard her. They carried her mother to the hospital as fast as they could.
After checking Skylar's mom into the hospital, her neighbor asked if she needed anything.
Skylar answered, "Actually yes. Can i borrow your phone?"
He gave her his phone and she called a friend of her moms.
"Hello?"
"Hi Mrs Garcia, Its Skylar"
"Oh hello, do you need anything?"
"Yes actually. I wanted to ask if my brothers can stay with you a while longer. Something came up and i cannot pick them up."
"Yes of course. Can I ask what happened?"
"Umm..." She hesitated, " My mom is in the hospital, I don't know what happened but I am about to find out"
"Oh my goodness, honey. Are you sure you don't need me there? After all, you are only 13 years old."
"No I'm okay, I just need you to watch my brothers"
"Ok don't worry i will. Just tell me if you need anything"
"Ok thank you" she said as she hung up
After a few hours of waiting a doctor came up to her. He told her that her mother was awake and if she wanted to see her. Skylar agreed and followed the doctor to a room. Skylar walked into the room and saw her mother laying on the hospital bed.
The doctor told them, " Your mother is very sick, she needs treatment but the problem is that it costs quite a lot"
Skylar looked at her mother and said "What would happen if she doesn't get the treatment today?"
"She will continue to be ill for a long time" answered the doctor, "it is not most likely that she will die but it is still possible"
Skylar was quiet for a second..
"I think we need a minute to talk about it" she said
The doctor nodded and left the room.
Skylar looked at her fragile mother.
"Where are your brothers?"
"They stayed with Mrs Garcia" she answered, "Alex and Micheal have already finished their homework and Elijah didn't have any so he just stayed with his brothers playing with Mrs Garcia's son"
"That's good to hear" said her mother
They stayed quiet for a minute.
"What are we going to do mom?" asked Skylar
"I don't have the money to pay for the treatment. I barely have enough to pay the rent." answered her mom
"But still I-"
"Skylar please!" she interrupted "even if I wanted it can't, there is not much I can do.."
Skylar felt tears forming. She loved her mother and she couldn't stand seeing her mother like this. She felt so useless.
"Honey its ok, you heard the doctor. Its most likely I won't die from this"
"But there is still a possibility" said Skylar with teas running down her face, "I don't want to lose you."
"And you won't, I will be here by your side" said her mom
Skylar leaned in and kissed her mom on her temple. Her mom gently grabbed her head with her weak hands to bring her closer to her face, as to touch foreheads.
"I would never forgive myself if i left you and your brothers" said her mom.
Skylar's mom slowly fell asleep and she had been too tired from the whole day. Skylar grabbed her hand tightly and laid her head beside her mom on the bed.
"Why is it that life only wants to take from me?" she muttered under breath, "Why don't you give me for once?"

A little note from the author:
I never got the chance to fully explain Skylar's family, so here I am! Skylar lives with her mom but her father didn't want kids but still stayed close just to give money for child support. But one day suddenly it came to light that he had gotten her pregnant again after a dinner out to "talk". He was upset about this (even tho it was his fault) and didn't want to deal with this so he ran away, and never paid child support again but because Skylar only saw him like twice in her life, she didn't care, she only cared that her mother was pregnant and sad. When her mom gave birth, she had three boys, triplets, by the names of Alex, Micheal, and Elijah. They are wonderful kids about 6 years old. After school Skylar picks them up from Mrs Garcia's house because they get out of school earlier than Skylar gets out of school and their mom out of work. If her mom ever stays to work late, Skylar stays home with them and cooks for them. And yes i am aware that i keep calling Skylar's mom "her mom", i just haven't thought of a good name.
