BLOSSOM sat in the nearly empty bookstore, reading her novel.

she had applied for a position at booknook early in the summer, realizing she had nothing better to do and wanting to make some extra money.

she absolutely adored working there. she had visited the bookstore many times throughout her years, loving the the way it was hidden downtown, the warm lighting, and the smell of coffee in the tiny cafe they had attached to the building. it was the best place for her to relax, read a good book, or study.

so it seemed only natural for her to work here. she was absentmindedly listening in for the ding of the entrance, signaling a customer. as if on que, she heard the ding and looked up, seeing a familiar redhead.

"hey pinky" she heard brick say from across the store, a face looked up from where they sat, an old lady scowling at bricks volume.

he shrugged before turning back to blossom. he had been visiting the store a lot, buying the most obscure books. she tended to questioned his sudden interest in classical novels whenever he came.

"hello" she stared back, pulling herself out of her own thoughts. "what are you here for brick?"

"hmm oh yeah the usual" he smiled, tilting his head and resting his elbows on the table.

"another fiction piece?" she asked, going around the counter towards the fiction section.

her and brick had made a sort of routine. he'd come into the store, she'd pick one of her favorites and he'd read it, coming back a week later for another book.

this weeks read, she had decided, was Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

"interesting" he said, going to pull the book out of her hands.  she felt his hand touch hers, and if she hadn't been hyper aware of it she almost would've missed it. his hand grazed hers for a second longer than normal, dragging his hands on hers while pulling the book up.

she was immediately embarrassed by how flustered it made her, and looked up to see him staring at her, holding onto the book.

the silence was all consuming, and so was the eye contact.

looking away, she broke the trance. "thank you, blossom" he said, and she smiled in response

they went to the register and he paid, continuing the routine. she was getting ready to say her usual goodbye but this time he stayed at the register even after paying.

"i liked last weeks book the best" he said, and she smiled, he had given him pride and prejudice last week, her favorite.

"i'm glad" she grinned, "what did you like about it"

"i liked the twist, and their relationship" he shrugged, "although i'm not usually into those cheesy kind of romance things"

"i figured" she laughed, and his grin grew bigger

after a moment of silence, he started to fidget, "you know blossom, there's something i've been meaning to tell you"

"yes?" she asked, beckoning him to go on

"i.. uhm, i think your really pretty" he flushed and so did she

"oh.. thanks" she mentally hit herself, oh thanks? that's it?

"i think.. your pretty too" she tried fixing it, but instead made it worse.

he laughed and she could feel the embarrassment creep up on her skin in the form of blush.

"i'm glad, blossom" he said, grabbing his book and leaving the flustered blossom behind to think about what he meant.
