6. Snow Day

You opened your eyes to see the same sight you closed them to. Your bedroom somewhat of a mess after the gift wrapping, a few empty popcorn bowls. Even the tv was still going, playing a random show.

A deep sigh sounded right by your ear. Right, you had fallen asleep after Loki. You really wanted to stay there for the day, but alas, responsibilities. You tried to sit up without waking him, carefully picking his arm up and moving it to his side.  You slipped out of his grasp and replaced your body with a pillow, hoping it was enough to trick his sleep brain. He seemed to be fooled, as he pulled it into his chest and cuddled up to the pillow.

You walked to the kitchen, which was strangely quiet. Thats right, today was a busy day for the team. Your dad was out doing rich guy stuff, Steve, Wanda, and Peitro were out on a mission, and the others were still at their homes.

You and Loki had the tower to yourselves.

This was when you had planned to wrap stuff, but you had finished last night, so today really was a free day. Well, until ballet recital that is. But you had time.

You did a small victory dance and began to make breakfast, the same meal you had the entire week, avocado toast with an egg. You made sure to get two of everything, smiling at the thought of the god sleeping in. You were hardly ever there in the mornings, thanks to your class schedule.

Humming a Christmas song that had been stuck in your head last night, you pulled out the toaster, setting the slices of bread in and pressing down. You figured Loki would want some sort of wakeup drink, since you were used to early mornings, and he clearly was not. You boiled water in the kettle for tea, as well as put coffee grounds in the machine.

After a few minutes of cooking, Loki stumbled in, clearly worried about something. As soon as he saw you, his expression softened.

"Morning." you grinned, sliding a mug to him. "Tea and coffee are on the counter."

"You switched yourself with a pillow " he half grumbled, pouring tea into his mug.

"I didn't want to wake you up. You aren't as used to early mornings as I am."

"On the contrary. I'm usually the first one up. This time was only different because I thought you were still with me..." his voice was more sour now as he sat at the counter.

You turned around, placing the plate of food in front of him. "I'm sorry. I really didn't think much of it."

"You know I worry, love." he sighed.

You nodded, looking out the window and immediately perking up.

"It's snowing!" you bounced up and down a few times. The snow reminded you of home. You were born in Canada, and lived there with your mother for a while, until she got sick. Your father had been a friend of Tony's, so you stayed with him while he was working in New York. One day, your father stopped visiting, and Tony unofficially adopted you.

"You really get that excited over some snow?" Loki chuckled. You turned to see him smiling, not teasing, but lovingly.

"I used to build snow forts for hours as a kid..." you sipped your coffee, thinking of your childhood. Loki mumbled something you couldnt hear into his mug. "I have dress rehersal at four, but we have this whole tower to ourselves today."

He perked up at that. "Splendid." he gave you a smirk.

"I was considering filming something for my channel. You know, give the press some holiday cheer to gnaw on." you stretched your back, sleeping in that position was great, but man did your back hurt. "They love the ballet videos because they know no paps can't ever get into a show."

"I'm not sure I want my kaerasta being watched by others in those clothes they make you wear..."

You set your mug down quite hard. "Excuse  me?"

Loki raised his hands. "Jesting, darling. I am jesting." your raised a brow, unamused. "You dont really think I would say that, do you?"

"Would you?"

"Gods, no!" he sputtered. "I had the pleasure of kicking the arses of anyone who told Sif things like that." you still looked unconvinced. "Women are allowed to wear whatever they please, and men should be expected to act maturely."

"Should is the key word." you sighed. "I've learned to tune them out...most of the time."

Loki stood and went to your side. "Most of the time?" he placed a hand on your back, looking concerned.

"The other times I just give them a battlement to the nose." you mock kicked him.

"As you should." Loki inclined his head.

....

You checked outside for the millionth time. Finally! It had snowed enough to cover the ground decently.

"Loki, let's go outside!" you shook his shoulder gently.

His eyes fluttered open. "What?" he asked with a yawn.

"Snow, outside, let's go!" you were way too excited. It hadn't snowed enough the past few years, in your opinion. You poked his nose over and over.

"Alright, alright..." he swatted your hand away with a smile and sat up.

You bounced around outside, acting like a complete child and not caring one bit. You flopped onto your back in the snow, watching the flurries fall. You were on top of the helipad, since that was one of the only places the public couldn't spot you.

You quickly sat up, noticing Loki hadn't expressed the same energy you had.

"You don't have to stay out here if you don't want to." you told him, taking a seat on the bench next to him. Tony and Pepper had converted part of the roof into a sort of garden area. "I just miss home a lot during the winter." you kissed his cheek, which was very cold. Colder than his usual cold. "Loki?"
