(Exter POV)

When i walked through the portal error made all I felt was the feeling of warm sunlight touching my bones amd then when I opened my eye sockets I had closed I was blinded by the sunlight hitting my eyelights for a moment until my eyelights adjusted to what was in front of me. And well what I saw in front of me was something I was not expecting.

There in front of me was a beautiful garden filled with different kinds of flowers and butterflies. The butterflies cathing my eye the most, Why? Well it was because they all seemed unique in their own way, the way they would fly to the colors on their wings and how they glowed, it was all very eye catching.

Sadly my time to admire the garden and butterflies came to an end when I suddenly heard a familiar glitchy voice speak behind me. "Looks like you lived." Error said while looking around the garden before pulling his hand out. "Yup." Is all I said before curiously watching as a butterfly that matched error's color scheme flew onto his finger and let out a gentle glow that seemed to make error's posture relax slightly.

"Anyways- where are we exactly?" I asked while noticing a little cobblestone pathway nearby. "We are in Life's garden." Error said while pulling his hand away from the butterfly letting it fly off to the other butterflies in the garden. "Okay... And who's this Life you're talking about?" I asked while watching the butterfly disappear into the mix of other butterflies.

"I believe he would be talking about me." Someone said while I turned around to notice a goat lady who I noted was Toriel. "Tory?" I asked while staring at the goat mom in front of me. "I also go by that name but I prefer it if you call me Life dear." Life said while staring at me with a observing look. "Right- sorry about that, nice to meet ya life. My name is Exter." I said while staring back at life with a small smile.

"It's a pleasure to meet you too Exter, lovely name by the way." Life said while showing a soft smile before turning around towards another cobblestone pathway that was behind her. "Would you like some cinnamon pie? I just made some." Life said while beckoning us to follow. "Well.." I started before looking at error only to see that he was gone.

Turning around back to Life I can see that she was slightly frowning. "He just left while I was distracted didn't he?" I said while staring at life for confirmation. "It seems to be so...*sigh* I am sorry for error's behavior he can be well- confusing at times." Life said while turning back to the cobblestone pathway and beckoning me to follow. "It's fine, plus I don't blame him for leaving. He probably didn't want to hear me nagging him to teach me how to make portals to other au's." I said while following Life.

"Still... It's not good manners to just leave someone alone in a place they don't know anything about. Also you really don't know how to make portals exter?" Life said while glancing at me to make sure I was still following. "Good manners? I don't think error's the type to easily behave and have good manners to someone he's only known for only a few hours. Also yeah, I really have absolutely no idea on how to make a portal to other au's. I said while staring at the medium sized cottage that had now came into view.

"Who knows maybe next time error will behave more... mannerly." Life said while opening the door to the cottage. "Also if you like I can ask someone I know if they can teach you how to make portals" Life offered while beckoning me inside the cottage. "Right. Also I would love to take you up on that offer you just made." I said while showing Life a grateful smile.

"Then it's final, I'll contact my friend once you finish eating your cinnamon pie, Alright?" Life said while heading towards what I assumed was the kitchen. "Of course" I said while sitting on a stool that was in front of the counter that connected to the kitchen. After I said those words, I thanked life for the cinnamon scotch pie that she brought to me and then ate while listening as Life talked about the butterflies in the garden and what they do.

"You saw the butterflies in the garden correct?" Life said while drinking a cup of tea she made. "Yup, they're really beautiful by the way." I said while taking a bite of the cinnamon pie. "Indeed they are beautiful" Life said with a smile before continuing on about what she was gonna say next. "But of course that's not what I wanted to talk to you about, what I wanted to tell you about is what the butterflies do and what they represent." Life said while taking a sip of her tea.

"Eh? What do you mean aren't they just some beautiful butterflies in a garden?" I said while showing a puzzled expression. "Oh goodness no! Far from it actually, they are what I call soul butterflies and they help lead the soul they represent into the afterlife." Life said with a smile. "Soul butterflies? I never heard of them before." I said while now having a curious look on my face. "It makes sense why you never heard of them dear, after all not many know about them and the couple that do don't really talk about them since they don't see the need to talk about them. I on the other hand think it's important others know so they at least have some comfort of knowing that they won't be totally alone on their journey to the afterlife." Life said with a soft smile.

"That's nice, though didn't you say they represent others souls? What does that mean?" I asked while thinking back to the many butterflies that I saw in the garden. "Well you see, when a soul comes into existence a butterfly will appear in the garden and that butterfly represents that soul. The stronger the soul, the brighter the butterfly will be." Life said while taking another sip of her tea.

"Is that so? But where does the butterfly go after the soul they represent dies? I said filled with more curiosity then before. "The butterfly leads the soul they represent into the afterlife and once the soul is successfully taken into the afterlife then the butterfly will disappear." Life said with a slightly sad look on her face. "What happens if the butterfly fails to lead the soul they represent into the afterlife?" I asked while noticing that I ate all my pie.

"Well if they fail to lead the soul they represent into the afterlife then the butterfly will dim for awhile until finally it turns into nothing but life energy for the garden." Life said while looking out the cottage window. "That's just sad." I said with a frown. "Indeed it is sad but there is nothing I nor anyone else can do about that." Life said with a soft sigh.

For a moment we sat there in silence until a sudden realization hit me. "Wait- so does that mean the butterfly that flew towards error was the butterfly that represents him? Also how come I didn't see a butterfly representing me?" I said while looking at Life for an answer. "You are correct, the butterfly error was holding before was his butterfly that represents him. As for your second question i do not know, it could be because it just didn't want to appear or it was because it could've been sleeping and didn't notice your presence yet." Life said with a hum.

"The butterflies sleep?" I said with a surprised look. "Of course, they are required to sleep like most things do." Life said with a smile. "That's nice to know." I said while staring through the cottage window. "It is nice to know." Life agreed while staring at me for a moment before her eyes widened in realization. "Oh dear, it seems we may have talked a little longer than I realized. I will contact my friend i was talking about earlier and will let you know when they're here alright?" Life said while standing up.

"Hm? Oh right, I almost forgot about that." I said while showing an embarrassed smile for not realizing how much time had passed. "If you like you can hang out in the garden, who knows you may meet your butterfly there this time." Life said while heading towards a phone that was on a nearby desk. "That's true, I'll see you later then life!" I said before heading out the cottage and back onto the cobblestone pathway to the garden.

"See you later too Exter!" Life said while smiling at how eager I seemed to head into the garden to most likely find my butterfly. After exter headed on his way to the garden, Life picked up the phone on the nearby desk and went through her contacts until she stopped at a certain someone's number.

The someone? Well I think you can figure that out, if you can't then you'll find out in the next chapter!
