"Maddie, get up, it's time for school!" My sister Mackenzie came barging into my bedroom, a plate of toast in hand. "Mom sent this up to you." I fluttered my eyes open and slowly sat up against the wooden head of my cosy bed. "Thanks, Mackenzie," I yawned. My little sister, Mackenzie, was a star, always helping out around the house and doing things for my mom and I. I was passed the small saucer of goldenly buttered toast and ingested it quickly. The beautiful brunette had exited the room by now, which meant that it was time to get dressed. Peeling off my purple duvet, I leaped out of bed and bolted to my wardrobe across the room, the wood's freezing surface consumed my bare feet in coldness. It was the beginning of November, winter was on the way. Pittsburgh was -6 degrees already. I selected a pair of black denim jeans, a red polo shirt, my brown snow boots and a cute red oversized bow for my chestnut coloured hair. My heavy winter coat over all of that, obviously. After getting changed, I skipped into the family bathroom and brushed my teeth, washed my face and all that jazz. The clock ticked away as I continued on to curling my long hair. The heat of the curling wand sizzled up near my ear as I wrapped the last lock of hair around it. Today was Monday, the start of the week. I had perceived that if I looked and felt good on Monday, I would have a good day and a fantastic week. Another ten minutes passed as I carefully sketched on some light makeup such as mascara, eyeshadow and some very light lipstick. I then headed downstairs for my school bag. "Have a nice day at school, Mads!" My mom enveloped me in a hug before I stepped out of the door and strolled off to school. The pale snow crunched under my feet as my journey proceeded, the crispy air floating effortlessly around my body. There went another ordinary day of second year, of being fourteen. I arrived at the school building at, according to my phone clock, eight thirty on the dot. I made my way to my locker to accumulate my books and binders and I happened to pass my best friend in the whole world on the way, Miss Kendall Vertes. "Hi, Maddie!" Kendall chirped. "What's up, KK?" I hugged her tightly and then released, remembering I still had a locker to get to. "I have to go now, but I'll catch up with you later on in English." "Alright, see you then!" That was the end of our conversation as we both headed in opposite directions.
When half past two swung round, I hurried off to my English class, impatient to see my Bro. I marched up the stairs to the second floor and found classroom 6. After almost kicking the door down ninja style, I raced in and over to where she was stationed. "Boo!" I practically yelled, sneaking up behind Kendall. Kendall rotated round, but showed no reaction. "You know, I'm used to you doing that by now, Maddie," she giggled. I sighed and plonked down into the desolated chair alongside hers. Mrs. Lynch suddenly appeared at the pinnacle of the classroom. "Girls, quieten down! I have some news!" She bellowed. Now, the class of young girls was dead silent. "Ah, that's better. Now, I'm sure you all know St. Kevin's Secondary School, yes?" St. Kevin's Secondary School was another school on the other side of town. We have done many activities with them, such as school walks and fundraisers for school supplies. We just have never actually met the students, only the teachers. "Yes, Mrs. Lynch," the chorus of girls answered. "Well, everybody will be getting a pen pal from there. You will write to them every week up until Christmas time. The pairs are chosen from a hat, totally at random. We just thought it might be something fun to do!" Cool! I couldn't wait to find out who I'd be writing to! The teacher passed around a hat with small folds of paper held inside. Kendall closed her eyes shut and dug her hand into the bottom when it came to our table. After glancing at the small strip, she frowned and said, "Um...Maddie, I got a boy that I used to be friends with. We had a massive fight..." I could tell she was dreading the next two months. I gave her a sympathetic look and copied her motion of putting my hand in and yanking out a name. The slip read Katherine Davies. "Kendall," I whispered quietly. "I got a girl named Katherine Davies. We could swap if you want, so you don't have to talk to him." She gasped and threw her arms over me in joy. Ok, that fight must have been pretty bad. "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" Kendall chimed as she deprived me of my piece of paper and replaced it with hers. "Zack Torres, huh?" I mumbled after reading the name plastered onto the white background. You know, this could be fun!
