The winter air was crispy. Snow had made its way down from the sky to my feet, forming a large pile over the top of my boots. As little as a minute passed, bringing on midday. I grinned at the sight of a familiar looking boy. He had the same brunette hair, the same crystal blue eyes and the same smile that always made my heart falter. Before Zack even encountered me, thoughts whirled through my head like never before. You should be mad at him for what he's done! But on the other hand, it was Kalani that possessed him. It was Kalani's fault! Give him another chance, Mads. Zack is only human, he's going to make mistakes just like you. Although, he could have said no to Kalani if he was really my friend. Should I forgive him? All of this happened in the five seconds before Zack appeared by my side. "Hi," Zack whispered, barely audible. I smoothly turned my head and gave him a comforting smile. The two of us stared at the open world around us. Some would call it staring into space, but it's so much more than that. I don't know about Zack, but I was taking in the beautiful town of Pittsburgh, graced with a pale blanket of fluffy snow. I was observing the elegant willow trees, the quarter frozen lake, the clear sky, everything. There was so much more to look at than just "Pittsburgh".
I strolled by Zack's side all the way to the north part of town. We spoke only about what we were here for. "Kalani pressured me into it. I wanted to text you, but she told me that if I did, she would find someone else." "She doesn't sound like a very good girlfriend to me. Zack, if I were you, I would-" "But you're not me, Maddie. I don't have the confidence that you have." I was cut off. I could just about see all of the pain and anger in his eyes. I had to give in. This wasn't about me anymore. "Zack, I will help you." I enveloped the boy I thought about everyday in a hug. I then realised it. Ever since we began sending each other scribbled notes, I have always wanted to be his.

The next day, I made plans to meet up with Zack since it was a bank holiday Monday and we had no school. As usual, we met up at the infamous fish and chips place. "Did you do it?" I smirked, making my way towards him. "Yes," Zack smiled. "I broke up with Kalani this morning." "See? I told you you didn't need her! How good does it feel?" I asked. "It feels better than good. Thank you for helping me figure out my feelings and everything else." I gave him a little no problem sort of shrug as we continued on to the field where we once had a snowball fight. This time, we had a snowman building competition! We were just after finishing our snowmen when Zack slipped me a square note of paper. Curiously, I opened it up. While I was doing so, he said, "I know I just broke up with Kalani so you don't have to but..." Written down on the square of paper were the words, "Maddie, will you go out with me? -Zack xoxo". I looked up at the tall boy who was giving off a blushing smile and nodded. "I'm going to keep this scribbled note forever."
