"Ok, girls. I will now hand out the replies from your pen pals. Please do not open them until everyone has theirs." My teacher picked up the stack of envelopes from her desk and handed them to the top table, which our friends, Paige and Mackenzie, were sitting on. Together, they searched through the letters to find the ones with their names written on the front. Then, the two girls passed the re-stacked stack to the girls behind them and so on. At last, the letters were slid onto our desk. Kendall excitedly snatched them and shuffled through, revealing a white and sealed letter after five envelopes. I could already see that my reply was placed on top, so no effort was required for finding it. Another minute or two silently passed, everyone ecstatic for unsealing their pen pal's respond. "You may now open up your letters." I ripped the sealed lip of my envelope open and snatched out the letter from inside. Written on mint green paper, were Zack's handwritten words, neatly evened out in height. "To Maddie,
Hiya! My name is Zack as you probably know. You sound pretty interesting with all your dancing. I dance too! I couldn't live without hip hop. I go to the Candy Apples Dance Center, how about you? My favorite colour is green and I don't have any pets, but my little sister is enough for all of my family. Well, I'll write to you again soon! See you around, ballerina.

From Zack x"
I scanned over the letter a couple of times before grinning to myself. I folded up the sheet of paper and slipped it into my back pocket, wanting to keep it as a memory of my first pen pal. As far as anyone else knows.

The next week approached in a slump. On Monday, I got detention for being late to a class. On Tuesday, I simply got loads of homework, with dance classes on top of that. Wednesday? Don't even say that word. I slipped into a mucky puddle on the way to school. My new AirForces? Ruined. Then, ah, Thursday. On Thursday, I forgot my history AND maths homework at home. Friday was by far the best day. On Friday, we wrote to our distant friends in St. Kevin's Secondary School. This time round, I chose a piece of pastel purple tree, AKA; paper. I began my letter the same way as always. "Dear Zack,
Oh, that's so cool! I didn't know you danced aswell! I go to the Abby Lee Dance Company. We've competed against you before, I'm sure. We have probably seen each other at competitions but didn't take notice. Our next competition is in New Jersey, next weekend actually. Have you ever competed with a solo, hip-hopboy? ;)
From 'ballerina' x"

I scribbled down on the page and continued on to retrieving an envelope and writing his name on the front. Then, it was time to go home. Mrs. Lynch happily collected up the letters and stashed them away in the same paper bag as before. I wonder what Zack will reply...
