This chapter flows with the previous chapter, continuing with, yet another, flashback. Enjoy my lovelies!

White had repeatedly been glancing back and forth between her work and Black's wing. She'd often go to open her mouth to speak up yet she couldn't formulate any words, so she'd turn back to her screens. Right now, she eyed Black, who had edged closer to her. She shook it off, shaking her head and returned to her work, unaware of the plan Black had formulated.

As the darker Diamond typed at her screens, she stretched one of her wings outwards. The feathered limb wrapped around White, whos posture stiffened. Her hand froze over the device she had been working on and her head whipped to face Black. The other Diamond was unfazed by her own actions and continued with her tasks as if nothing had occurred, yet White could see the small smile that played at her lips.

White looked to the wing around her figure and then back to Black.

"What are you doing?" She questioned, the slightest tint of happiness in her voice.

"You have been captivated by my wings ever since the day I emerged," Black explained whilst typing away," You are evidently too afraid to ask if you are free to come into contact with them so I acted accordingly"

White stayed silent. Was it really that obvious that she was so fixated on her friends wings?

She gradually relaxed under the comfort of the large feathers. When around her, they made White look petite. They towered above her, casting a dark shadow over anything beneath them. It certainly felt as if she should be intimidated by them, but the warmth which radiated off of them made it difficult to be afraid. Each barb of the vane was so neatly organised, making it clear that Black took great pride in them. Somehow, not a single one was out of place. The light shimmered beautifully off of them, there wasn't any sign of any other colour, just an inky black. It was as if she was staring into an endless pit of darkness. They were...perfect.

"I see" White finally replied, steadily lowering a hand to the feathers which were upon her lap.

Her actions came to a stop just before her nails could come into contact with the wing. Her fingers curled into a ball as she retracted her hand slightly whilst contemplating her next move. She turned to look over to Black in the hopes that she'd catch onto her silence and acknowledge her conflict, but she was far too engulfed with her work.

White bit down against the inside of her cheek as her gaze moved back down to the feathers on her legs. She inhaled sharply and reached down to them. The silky barbs parted as her fingertips came into contact with them. As she grasped onto one of the largest feathers she looked to Black, who seemed to be unphased by her actions. White assumed this meant she was able to proceed with stroking the feathers and continued to do so.

She gently ran her fingers through the vane of them while watching intently as they moulded around her hand. She noted how they ruffled up ever so slightly as her fingers moved through them before returning to their original shape. A smile graced her lips, the soft feathers were exceptionally soothing to stroke. Therapeutic, even.

"You're always welcome to pet my wings if you wish" Black stated suddenly, slightly startling White.

The eldest nodded to herself since Black was still fixed on the many screens before her, taking note of her words.

"Thank you" She hummed, continuing to gently stroke the enormous feathers.

"I would advise you continue with your tasks though,"White's head lifted up to see that Black was now looking to her with a warm smile,"I'd hate for you to get swarmed with numerous reports to complete within a set period of time"

White quickly grew embarrassed and turned the the number of screens open with incomplete work displayed on them,"R-right, of course"

"She'd always be fascinated with how my feathers would melt in her touch" Black smiled sadly, knowing those days were long gone.

She hoped that their incident at the ball wouldn't affect their close bond. But alas, it seemed it had. Neither Black nor White had attempted to communicate with one another. Believe it or not, White was actually afraid. She didn't just fear that someone would've noticed their near fusion, she also feared what Black would think of her now. The thought of Black no longer wanting to speak with her truly scared her. She couldn't exactly place her finger on why she felt this way but it was most definitely bothering her.

"Anyhow," Black started, changing the subject,"I'm sure you will be able to get ahold of your powers sooner or later little one, it's just a matter of time and patience"

Pink smiled brightly up to her elder. She was really the only one who seemed to truly care for her, aside from Blue that is. She didn't know if the reasoning for it was that she pitted her but there was one thing she knew for certain. Black wasn't like the other Diamonds. She acted so differently when in the presence of the others. Yes, she would still keep her threatening and stern demeanour, but she had an extremely close yet differentiating bond between each Diamond. She appeared to see Blue as a somewhat...partner to Yellow. The winged Diamond would incessantly try urge the two gems together. She knew of how close they both were and would not let it go unnoticed.

However, when it came to White, Black took on a different role. Pink noticed, within the first few weeks of emerging, how different their bond was from anyone else's. They held so much trust in one another and even went so far as to allow the other to run one of their colonies if they were too busy. Blue and Yellow never did that. Pink knew the two eldest Diamonds were close but she saw how they had slowly grew apart over the years, especially after the ball.

"What happened at the ball?" The youngest questioned.
Though it was barely noticeable, a wave of panic washed over Black's face.
"What do you mean?"
"Well, I noticed that ever since that day you and White have become distant"
Black released a saddened chuckle,"Me and White have been distant for some time, we aren't like what we used to be"
Pink tilted her head to the side and frowned slightly,"Oh...well, I'm sure it'll all work out eventually!"

I hope you are right little one, Black spoke in her head.

"Well, I best be off"
"You're going?" Pink asked
"I have a limited amount of time to spare little one. And I believe you are due to have a talk with Blue, Yellow and White shortly, correct?"
The small Diamond huffed and groaned,"Yeah"
Black hummed and layed her hand, which held Pink, on the ground,"Well, it would be best if you don't bring up wanting a colony"
"I know,"Pink stepped off of Black's hand,"Can I come speak to you afterwards"
"Of course you can, I'll be in my extraction chamber working"

The young Diamond smiled happily up to Black who now stood back up. Her heels clacked as she took a few large steps to the door before turning back to Pink.

"You should probably set off now, better to be early than late"

Pink nodded quickly and trotted over to the larger Diamond's side before they both set off and parted down different halls.
