"I can't do this anymore."
"What..?"
"I love you, but it's killing me. Each word, each smile, each kiss. I said I'd wait, but this hurts too much to handle."
"...You're leaving."
"I don't want to."
"I'll let you go." And he would. How could he hold her a prisoner to him, when all he was doing was hurting her? How could he tell her he missed her? That this was what he was afraid of, that her leaving, losing her, was the only thing he could not bear, and tried to avoid? For some explicable reason, she stood, she waited, her eyes trained unwaveringly upon him. "I don't want you to leave." She didn't answer that, just waited. She'd always waited, he realised. No matter what, she'd always waited for him. And so, he took the leap. "Go out with me." It was clear she wasn't expecting that. Her eyes blew wide, her mouth dropped open; she stared. "I love you too. I don't want to make you wait anymore. So go out with me."
And then she was crying, and he was holding her, raining kisses all over her eyes and face, till he found her mouth. And she was kissing back.
