A small town located just outside of Brussels, Belgium.
The sword slashed through the person's throat as the Angel stepped into the room. The couple huddled together, the little girl crying and sobbing at their feet as they held her. Screams echoed as the Angel dealt swiftly with the parents, and simply stood, staring blankly at the bodies with those inky black eyes as the little girl ran into the woods nearby, sobbing. She wouldn't last a day alone by herself, and the Angel knew that too well. She cleaned her blade, when suddenly she heard a cadence of footsteps.
'Enoch,' she said softly. 'Come to cast me out again?' She turned to see the Angel of Life standing there, his sword drawn.
'You will release Adelaide Lehnsherr from your hold. She is innocent.'
'It's her hands that killed. If I leave now, the guilt will make her crumble.' The Angel tilted her head to look at the other angel with a sadistic smile. 'Her husband will be left to pick up the pieces, because once I'm through with her, she won't want to live anymore.'
'Release her, now. I'm not trying to hurt her, or you.'
'You just want me out of yet another body. With me, she has purpose. I can feel the conviction, the righteous justice coursing through her. With me, she has a destiny.'
'You are using her for your own gain. She doesn't deserve that. Leave her, now, and I will let you live.'
'As opposed to what? Eradicating for good, like you should have done 2,000 years ago when the veil was torn? Absolutely pathetic,' the Angel laughed, brandishing her sword. 'Come on, fight me. Let's see if you've still got it.' The two brandished their swords and charged each other.
The two fought each other, sometimes circling each other like hawks, assessing each other's weaknesses, and other times up close to each other in combat, clashing over and over, never stopping for anything. When the Angel's sword was knocked out of her hand, the two angels began hand to hand combat, and Enoch quickly gained the upper hand over Azrael, bringing her to her knees and pressing his hands forcefully to her head. She screamed, trying to fight him, but it was no use. Pushing through her mind, he found Adelaide's consciousness and forced her to fall unconscious. The Angel of Death collapsed on the floor and almost immediately, she shifted back to Adelaide's form. Bucky stepped inside and nearly bolted towards Adelaide, collapsing on his knees next to her and pulling her into his arms, cradling her gently like a small child. She was motionless. Enoch knelt next to Bucky.
'She will recover. She just needs time.' The two men met each other's eyes. 'We have to get her to where she needs to be, though, in order for her to fully rest and recover. Let me take her.'
'No,' he said, almost protectively, holding Adelaide close. 'I won't let you take her unless I come with you.'
'You have a good, kind heart, Sargeant Barnes. I will allow you to return with me to where we need to go. She will need you for what is to come.'
'What is to come?'
'A lot of pain, Sargeant Barnes.' The two stood, Bucky adjusting Adelaide to carry her in his arms bridal style. 'She is strong. She will survive. But she is going to need you to help her push through. It will be long, and incredibly difficult. The love that you have for her will help her survive. It will help her fight and win.'
An underground base. Somewhere outside of Jerusalem, modern-day Israel.
My eyes peeled open slowly, excruciatingly, as if they were sown shut. I let out a low groan, blinking, my senses reviving. It felt - quiet. My eyes opened fully to meet white walls and a one-sided mirror in front of me. Slowly, I sat up and swung my legs over the side of my bed, my vision spinning temporarily, then aligning to give me full vision again. I stood, coming up to the one-sided mirror, and touching it.
'If you're wondering if I'm going to hurt you, I'm not,' I said. 'I just want to know who you are.'
'I know you won't hurt me,' a voice said, and the one-sided mirror turned into a double-sided, with a blonde male standing on the other side, staring at me with his arms folded. 'But I can't take any chances. How are you feeling?'
'It's quiet,' I said softly.
'You can't hear her in your head?'
'The Angel? No.'
'It's because of that,' he said, and gestured to my wrist. I looked at the simple silver bracelet.
'What is this? A power dampener?'
'That's one way to put it. It mutes her energy in your mind. And yes, it also mutes your powers. Just so we don't have any unwarranted incidents.'
'Where is my husband?'
'He's here, but I'm not going to allow him to see you until I know for sure that that thing works on you.'
'It seems to be working just fine.'
'I understand that, but I can't let him see you until I'm sure that you won't hurt anyone for the time being. I've already broken protocol by allowing him to be here.'
'Then why am I here?'
'You're the special case. Being possessed by an angel is not something to merely trifle with, and your husband wasn't a part of the package when it came to dealing with your little angel problem. He insisted, and being as sympathetic as I am, I understood that you would need him in the hours to come.'
'What are you going to do to me?' I asked, fear creeping into my tone.
'I can't do anything to you unless you allow it. If you fight me, though, I will have to use force.'
'Let me out, please. I need to see him. I need to see my husband. I need to see my kids. My family, they'll be wondering where I am.'
'We already have a contingency plan in place for that. Your family won't wonder where you are. For all they know, you and your husband are on a mission somewhere in Europe. You didn't say where you were going, only that you were going for a couple of weeks and wouldn't be back for a while.'
'You lying bastard!' I growled, slamming my fist against the glass, my body shaking from the outburst as my hand began to slightly glow with white-gold energy. 'Let me out!'
'I need to get that fixed. It's not working,' he said. 'Cease and desist now, or I will use force.'
'Go ahead,' I said, stepping back, spreading my arms wide. 'Do your worst. You'll find it very hard to kill me.'
'Oh, I'm well aware, Miss Lehnsherr.' He turned and left, and I screamed, slamming my fist into the glass again.
