Several days later...
I sent a blast of white-gold magic Bucky's way, flipping out of the trajectory of his knife. I landed in a solid pose, and stood, pulling the knife from the ground and flipping it in my hands.
'You're getting stronger,' he said approvingly. I offered the knife to him hilt-first and he took it, sheathing it in his suit. 'Impressive flip.' I smiled.
'You're welcome. It's good to get back in the game.'
'You've got a final shock test with the headpiece again today, I've heard,' he said.
'Wait - what?'
'They were going to put the headpiece on you, to clear the last traces of the Angel from your mind. They said if it worked, they were going to get us out of here by tonight.'
'Back to Brooklyn, then?'
'Yeah. That'll be good.'
'Do we want to keep looking for the doppelganger?' I asked. He looked at me.
'I don't know. That's up to you.'
'I mean... I want to stop needless deaths. But I also don't want more people to get hurt, which is exactly what will happen if I intervene and try to bring her to justice. I might have to bring in someone else. Thankfully, I know someone.'
'Wait - who?' he asked. It was his turn to be shocked now.
'I saved his life when I was working with HYDRA. I was sent to kill him, but I chose to let him live. He kind of owes me one for saving his life, and desperate times call for desperate measures. I need to call this favour in as soon as I return to Brooklyn.'
'Who is he?'
'He's a vampire hunter. His name is Blade.'
