Chapter Eleven
There are several emotions running through myself right now; fear, fear and most of all fear.
It was Monday, and a week since I started the diet. Because I was aiming at one pound per week, I expected to see a hundred and thirty nine pounds in the scale.
I had behaved for the most part, although I did ate at least one portion of the Doritos bag Angelina brought home a couple of days ago. Oh, and the cupcake. Well, maybe I lost it but gained it back then.
Okay, time to figure it out.
I placed one foot first, crossed my fingers, and stepped with both finally.
Unsealing my pupils, I stared at a failed attempt at weight loss staring back in the form of a scale.
How I wished the machine was wrong.
Unbelievable! Truly unbelievable. Any trace of complacency I had felt over the week had been gone in a second.
I was in the middle of entering a major analysis of the possible reasons for this, but the knock on my door halted any further analysis than slow metabolism.
"Bella, don't freak out but I have bad news." My mom hissed as she showed me the same face I had before stepping on the scale. Perhaps we do look similar.
"What?" I asked angrily. Maybe this was meant to be a bad day.
"Bear is missing." She blurted."But before you say anything, we have already looked and asked for him, yet we are not calling the police because it's still too soon."
My eyes bulged significantly, which as always, caused mom to step back. "WHAT? SINCE WHEN? HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?" At this point I was yelling hastily at my mom which only augmented her nervousness.
"Your dad left the gate half, scantily centimeters open, so I'm guessing through the night. Calm down honey, you need to dress up for school and -"
"School? I'm not going to school when B is missing! Do you know what can happen to him?"
"Yes, our righteous neighbors could find him and bring him home. It's hardly six love."
"I'm not in the mood for jokes mother." I waved her off, took a sweatshirt from the closet whilst putting on my sandals and rushing to the door.
My mom hot on my tail. "You are not missing school young lady."
Standing by the door, I answered, "No, I'm missing Bear, but I'll get him this instant. Don't worry mom, he will
probably feel my scent and come to me.""I understand you are worried, but I have asked our kind neighbors to get him home if they see him, which is what most likely will happen."
"I can't trust your most likely. Imagine, he must be hungry and cold. Poor baby, bye mom."
"But-" Her words hung in the air as her voice faded with each step I took away from home.
Now, where should I head off first. Right, the park. The only place he actually enjoys.
"Wait, Bella!" Someone called after me.
Thereafter stepping around, I saw both my mom and dad rushing to reach me.
Suckers, they just love me too much.
"I hope you are here to help." I inspected their expressions hoping to find some support in them.
"Just tell us where to go." It was my dad, who with determination in his voice, offered to separate as the easiest way to expedite the search.
"Mom, go to the desolated green area by Miss Collins's house. B has several friends there. Then, continue your way to the local bakery because the owner always gives him treats." She nodded and immediately took off. "Dad, go the neighborhood behind your house. He tends to get lost when he reaches the end of the gate. You should also ask around our neighbors or houses nearby. I will be at the park and around there, okay?"
