Chapter Twelve

Sleep is my refuge.

I wouldn't call my endlessly devoted love for sleep an effect of laziness. In fact, I hate wasting my time on activities that fail to ignite any productivity. A category from which sleep couldn't fit in. Some prototypes to that concept involve birthday parties from family members I have never talked to, visits from my parents' friends in which I'm forced to be present but lack the chance to ever pronounce a word, helping my mom with her errands or translating uthe soccer games (from international leagues, like Argentina's) that are never in English to Dad, among others. However, sleep if for me a state of relaxation, an opportunity to escape from the stress of the real world, a place in which I don't have any obligation, but that of resting. And, I always find myself more ready to deliver energy whenever I have slept enough, although the meaning of enough is in constant fluctuation.

Enough is sometimes too much for an average person, and although sleep is my preparation for the humongous amount of frustration that I face everyday, I love it so much that one day my dad placed a finger below my nose to feel if I was still breathing, and confirm that my body still possessed life as it may.

Angelina didn't seem to understand that idea though, because she kept ringing my phone after twenty seven dismissed calls.

"Dude, what is your problem?" I boasted though the phone.

"It's one in the afternoon Bella, don't give me that attitude." She shot back.

"And your point is..." I trailed off providing her with the chance of filling the blank.

"My point is that Elle canceled the wedding, and Anna is expecting us at her house to hear Elle's apology." She explained worriedly. "I'll pick you up in fifteen minutes."

Here comes the drama.

After showering and dressing up, I decided to go downstairs and coexist with the living.
I remembered we were out of Bear's shampoo and decided to warn my parents before Bear's next bath is due.

"Mom... Dad?" I called out entering the kitchen.

"In the dinning table, Bella- Boo." Replied my dad.

Sauntering out of the kitchen, I found both of my parents having lunch. "Hey guys," I waved, "just wanted to let you know before I leave, that Bear has gotten fleas once again, and the medicine is over." I explained.

"I'm not buying his special shampoo anymore. He never learns!" My dad complained.

"Let's just leave him in the garden. They will go away eventually and Bear will learn not to cradle into dirt every time he is being cleaned up." Mom added following dad.

"Alright," I shrugged. "They are also all over your car dad, remember that's Bear's nap spot."

"I'm visiting the pet store this evening." He stated not looking up."

Mom quickly declared, "I'll arrange an appointment with the vet this evening as well."

"Okay." I chanted before heading outside, where Angelina was waiting for me.

Elle did not want to apologize, or maybe she did, though that is not what she did. Instead, the wedding party, along with Elle's mom and the groom's mom, were scattered in a circle surrounding a very unhappy, powerless, crying Elle, who in between sobs recounted the story of what caused the cancellation of her dreamed wedding.

"And I suggested that we change the wedding day to December twenty- five because it would be a wonderful idea to marry the day Christ was born. Then, suddenly the conversation went from christmas to me being the center of attention and trying to dedicate a day that is meant to spend with family to myself." She hollered adding emphasis to the last word as though that was a crazy idea.
