Chapter Nine

I stared at the doctor in disbelief. "I don't work out." I said firmly.

My mother didn't even try to dissimulate the audible sigh. "Bella." She said in a tone that foreshadows a possible anger breakdown.

"But mom, I can't even walk up the stairs of school without panting like a freaking dog thirsty for water." I whined. Of course I was been childish but in my defense, I have never been physically active.

"That's okay. If you say you are a dancer, you will probably be fine dancing any genre you prefer. Maybe a thirty minutes walk if you'd like." Her suggestion accompanied by subtlety, and kindness.

As we exited the clinic, mom started to lecture me on my behavior. Although her enthusiasm toward the scolding was outstanding, it was promptly cut short by someone calling out my name from behind.

"Bella, hey. Wait up." The half exhausted body of Percy Brown intercepted both my mom's and my line of vision.

Out of all the people I expected to see in a hospital, Percy was definitely at the very bottom, yet apart from the question of why he was here, my querying relied on how to feel about him now. Sure, I disliked him now for all that he did to my best friend last night, but there is also that part of me that feels awkward knowing he had a crush on me, or something like that.

My mom thought it was the perfect timing to catch up. "Oh my, Percy sweetie. You've grown so much! And, have you been taken your vitamins? You look so much stronger! I told your mommy they worked wonders."

Percy's sheepish smile showcased his shyness. "Thanks Mrs. carter. I'm so glad to see you too."

"Oh, she is here." Mom said shifting her body to find Mrs. Brown animately waving at her from behind, "I'll see you in a bit Bella. I'll just greet her."

As soon as she left, Percy's smile turned upside down. His worrying eyes insipid as it's dark color.

"I can explain." His hands were up in the air, as though he was ready to surrender.

"You better." I replied crossing my arms over my chest.

"Before anything, it's true. Everything she told you is true. But, I love her. It's not really a long story. The fact is that yes, I had this huge crush on you, but you turned me down. I was disappointed, and then I met Angelina and she was very light, happy and very mature. I got over you completely and feel in love with her so hard, I thought it was surreal. Not to replace you, but because she was genuinely brilliant in so many ways. That night, I was mad at her for being so her, for being the Angelina that has the attention of so many guys and I was jealous. I guess I just wanted to make her feel the same way: threatened, and you were my first thought. I didn't mean to cause such a fight, and I feel so sorry now."

I nodded.

I couldn't come up with an answer because I, myself, didn't know what was the correct thing to do. So, my eyes lingered on the floor for a moment, indifferent to his explanations whilst figuring out if he deserved my help or not,

"What do you think Bella? Do you hate me? Do you think you two will forgive me? Just say something, please." His eyes desperately searched mine with so much sadness, it hurt to see him.

"Idiot, you are so unworthy of your name." I shook my head in disapproval.

He, however, took this as an incentive and rushed to hug me. "Please, help me. She is the best thing that has ever happened to me."

"I can't believe you didn't even make sure she got home safely."

"I would have, but she was drunk. You know more than anybody how I hate alcohol and seeing her like that was so disappointing. I couldn't handle it."
