Chapter 2 - Doorstep delivery

Hogwarts, Oct 31, 1981.

Albus POV:

Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore was carefully moving his pawn for a long time with a single goal. Gain control over the wizarding world and subjugate the muggle world under his leadership. But he has so many big obstacles in his way, in magical Britain one of them is the Potters family. Potter's family is filthy rich, powerful and influential in political and martial aspects. As they have their standing army. No one knows any kind of inner- information about this army, all they know is they exist. They fought with the Potter lord and allies throughout centuries in different matters where a strong army was needed.

People have witnessed the might of this army most recently was when Gellert Grindelwald's reign of terror. "The potter army" as they generally call them has pushed back Gellert's allies so much that their victory was sure. That was when Albus came into the picture. Gellert Grindelwald was mortally wounded after a run-in with Charlus and some of the generals of the "Potter army", using the opportunity he snooped in and defeated him. People don't know this of course.

Albus Dumbledore became so famous, that he was sure he could mould the wizarding world into his way of thinking with the influence. Then he can conquer the muggle world too. Albus had advised his lover Gellert a lot of times that reigning in terror was not an ideal choice. But Gellert thought otherwise. When he saw Gellert's defeat was near he knew he could emerge as their saviour and expand his sphere of influence. That was what he did, but he failed to see the biggest obstacles in the way. The presence of families like Potters, Blacks, Bones etc in wizarding Britain. They have a strong political view that formed throughout their centuries of existence that can't be easily moulded.

Potters and Blacks were just allies for centuries. They didn't have any blood ties. Just economic, sometimes political and military assistance (in times of dire need) kind of relation. But it was Charlus Potter and Dorea Potter nee Black's marriage that sealed the deal. Wizarding Britain is generally a backward semi-feudal place. So, he kind of completely forgot about the other big fishes in the national and international wizarding world for some time. It was only when he tried to influence them, he ran into the obstacle and found out they could not be influenced easily. From then on it was a slow process. Why they don't interfere in Gellert's case directly instead of the alliance they created through the "Potter army" is a mystery to him. (Note: Use of Elder wand/Death Stick made them a little bit backfoot.)

He was offered positions like minister of magic, Supreme Mugwump of ICW etc. But he knows if he can influence the younger minds, he can win his quest for power more smoothly. That's why he didn't take the position of minister and stayed in Hogwarts to influence the heirs of the powerful British house in the way of thinking he wanted. He made sure to control the knowledge of powerful spells and rituals. Yet some of the heirs remain slippery. Their families continued to make sure that he didn't influence them by giving them private tutoring and personal training.

Over time he began to feel like the influence he had gained began to decrease, yet he still managed to keep his position. Thanks to his careful manipulation and making sure the right people feel indebted to him. In the case of Hogwarts though, he manages to climb the ladder to the headmaster position. Then he meets young Tom Riddle. His special talent made him think, what if there was another dark lord? What if he is more terrifying than the last one, he can defeat him, and people will look up to him again. As he already has some footing with the big fishes, he is sure he can reach his goal by eliminating some stubborn people.

All he did was implant some ideas into young Tom's already fearful and anger-filled mind. Coupled with the treatment he got from the muggle orphanage he grew up in, the fear began to turn into loathing for anything gradually. But what he doesn't expect is Tom to be so much more powerful than he expected and gain powerful allies. Tom becomes something he can't control with the power and knowledge he acquired through his travel far away from his monitoring. He somewhat started to fear he couldn't end the monster he created, and the recent spotlight he took advantage of would end too.
