It was finally March 23.

You'd expect the birthday of Lalisa would be full of joy and cheer. But it was entirely different from what you expected.

The Jeon mansion was veiled with a dreary atmosphere once again, like every other year on her birthday. She had only celebrated her birthday once since she became a Jeon, and she never wished to celebrate it again.

She had no longer thought of this day as her birthday. Instead, she could only think of it as one thing...

Her parents' death anniversary.

The new servants at the mansion were confused by the melancholy ambience. Wasn't it supposed to be Young Miss Lalisa's birthday?

"Hey, Head Maid, why is it so gloomy today? Isn't it Young Miss' birthday?" A newly appointed maid questioned.

The Head Maid hesitated before answering, "Ahh, you see, the Young Miss dislikes celebrating her birthday. Every year, she'd head out with Young Master and return back only during late at night, instead," she sighed in pity.

The younger maid misunderstood as a blush crept up her cheeks from the suggestive idea, "O-Oh my, it seems she'd rather s-spend the day with her younger brother then."

The Head Maid didn't say anything else and just looked down with a saddened expression. She had been with the Jeon family for as long as she could remember, and she was also one of the few who knew the truth about Lisa. She shut her eyes as a painful memory of 11-year-old Lisa popped up.

Flashback

The Jeon mansion was full of light as decorations filled the house. They were celebrating Lalisa's first birthday as a Jeon and each servant rushed to complete their tasks before the surprise.

Mr and Mrs Jeon entered the living room with a big present box in hand, "Everybody hide, Jungkook's bringing Lisa back any moment now!" Sandara announced.

Everyone scurried to be hidden and turned off the lights. They waited patiently as the front door creaked open. The lights were immediately turned on as confetti scattered the air, "SURPRISE!" Everyone cheerfully shouted.

But silence immediately took reign as they finally registered the look on Lisa's face. Her hands were clenched tightly, and her eyes held no sign of emotion as her face was stiff and somewhat...sad.

But almost as if to prove they had seen incorrectly, Lisa quickly plastered a sunny smile, "Wow, thank you so much!" She said with awe.

Everyone immediately let out a sigh of relief from her reaction. Her parents quickly beckoned her to come and make a birthday wish.

Lisa carried an unusual smile the whole time they had sang her happy birthday. No one noticed her desperation to leave that moment—no one except Jungkook.

He purposely aimed to end the celebration as quickly as possible, "I think Lisa must be sleepy now, let's wrap it up."

Sandara agreed, "Alright, Lisa make a wish," she encouraged. Lisa paused for a few seconds before she spoke out,

"I wish to never celebrate my birthday again." And with that, she blew out the candle.

Everyone was stunned silent as they noticed the 11-year-old girl bend down to a 90-degree bow, "I'm really sorry if I offended anyone by ruining all your effort, but I'd really prefer not to celebrate my birthday. Thank you." That was all she said before she walked away to her room.
