"You don't get to do this."

Orlando, FL

A soft grunt left her lips as she placed the last box  into the trunk of her car, the weight pulling at her arms and lower back . Sweat clung to her brows despite the early morning chill.

Just as she exhaled in relief, the sound of hurried footsteps and shuffling fabric snapped her attention over her shoulder.

"Move, move." The shorter, darks-skinned girl huffed, bags clinging desperately to her arms like vines trying to pull her down.

In one dramatic motion, Imani dropped the load into the already cramped trunk beside the others, before letting her arms fall to her side.

"Is that it?" Brooklyn asked, hand gripping the edge of the trunk, half-ready to slam it close

"Yeah, that's everything." Imani let out a tired sigh, waving a her hand lazily as she trudged towards the passenger side. (E-mon-e)

Brooklyn watched as Imani hopped in the car and quickly closed the door. She smiled while shaking her head.

Brooklyn chuckle softly, watching her friend collapse into the car like her bones had turned into jelly. They'd been up since three in the morning, packing every last thing they owned into the car.

Excitement about their new apartment had made them forget the most important part—actually packing—and now they were paying for it with exhaustion.

Brooklyn entered the car slowly, her body moving on autopilot. As soon as she shut the door, she glanced over and saw Imani already knocked out, mouth slightly opened, arms folded across her chest.

A yawn escaped her lips as she started the engine. The car rumbled to life, and with a glance back at the now-empty dormitory lot, she drove off—toward something new, something that, for once, felt like a beginning.

Brooklyn blinked herself awake a little more as she hit her right blinker, easing into the parking lot of the new apartment building. She glanced at Imani, still asleep and snoring softly.

"Imani." She called, nudging her eyes back to the road as she pulled into a spot. "Wake up we're here"

She parked the car and faced her best friend, finally waking her up. "We're here girl, let's go" She shook the girl, trying to get her up.
