"Bill?" You called out as you entered your flat. You'd just come home from work and were expecting him to be there. But instead of hearing his soft voice welcome you home, you heard a loud crash and a whimper. Your heart leapt and you dropped your purse in the doorway, rushing down the hall to the kitchen with your wand drawn.
It was a mess. Dishes were shattered on the ground, food was spilling out of the refrigerator; but worst of all was the giant wolf sprawled out across the floor, its eyes darting around the room frantically.
You screamed and backed up against the wall, too stunned to even cast a spell. The noise alerted the wolf to your presence and it began to approach you slowly, staring you down as you desperately tried to crawl up the wall. You squeezed your eyes shut, as if that would help you, and soon you felt its hot breath hitting your face.
Surprisingly, it didn't attack you. Instead, it let out a soft whine, nudging you with its nose. You opened your eyes slowly, completely shocked that it hadn't killed you. "Wha-"
The wolf was trying to nuzzle its head into your neck, whimpering as if it was frightened. Confused, you laid a hand on its head and it turned to look you in the eyes. You gasped when your eyes met the wolf's and you saw the unmistakable green eyes of your boyfriend staring back at you. "Bill?" You asked.
He simply licked your cheek in response.
You ran your fingers through his thick, red fur. "What happened to you?" You knew he couldn't answer you, he was a wolf; but you could tell that he was absolutely terrified. "Come on, let's go figure out what's going on."
He followed you over to your bookcase, watching you take a large book from one of the shelves before sitting down on the sofa. Bill hopped up onto the cushion beside you, resting his head in your lap. You combed your fingers through his fur with one hand and flipped through pages with the other until you found the section you were looking for.
"You weren't bitten, only scratched, so you can't be a full werewolf," you told him. You scanned the page until you found the bit of information you were looking for. "Oh."
Bill's head perked up and he looked at you with concern.
"It says here that those scratched by a werewolf will not phase during full moons like regular werewolves; but they will transform for twenty-four hours every 31st of October." You narrowed your eyes at the information written on the page. You didn't quite understand the logic of it, but when did anything really make sense in the wizarding world?
"I'm sorry, Bill, but it looks like you're going to be stuck like this until morning."
He whined and your heart broke for him.
"Awww, poor puppy. If it makes you feel any better, you make a very cute wolf."
He huffed and you laughed before standing up. "Come on, Wolfie. Why don't we sleep it off?" The two of you curled up in bed, hoping that Bill would be back to normal in the morning.
Luckily, when you woke up that morning, his human form was curled up in your arms. "Good morning, Wolf Boy," you greeted him.
He groaned, "Is this going to happen every Halloween?"
"I think so," you sighed. "But look on the bright side: I get to cuddle with a big, fluffy wolf once a year."
"You can cuddle with me whenever you want."
"But you're not fluffy."
"Y/NNNNN," he groaned.
You laughed. "Okay, okay. Now go clean up the mess you made in the kitchen."
