Draco sighed, watching as another figure darted past him. He didn't know why they thought he couldn't see them. He wasn't stupid. And he knew exactly who it was.
"Petrificus Totalus!" He shouted, causing the figure to freeze in their tracks just as they went around the corner, falling over with a thud. "Honestly, Curtis, this is the third time this week."
Draco rounded the corner, lazily. He could hear frantic whispering and he narrowed his eyes. Nobody should be whispering. They should be frozen. But when Draco finally saw what was happening, he was even more confused.
Curtis was indeed frozen, but you and another one of your friends were hunched over his body trying to haul him away hurriedly. You stopped when you noticed Draco, letting go of your half of Curtis and allowing his head to hit the floor while your other friend continued holding his legs up.
"Oh, hello, Draco!" You said cheerfully. "How are you this fine evening?"
Draco glanced between you, Curtis, and your other friend Hayley. You were smiling at Draco, feigning innocence as Hayley muttered a counter-curse that brought Curtis out of his stupor. The boy groaned, rubbing his head.
"What in Merlin's name is going on here?" Draco demanded.
"Um, we were just on our way to the kitchens for a midnight snack," you explained.
"All three of you?" He asked, with clear skepticism.
    "Yeah."
"With a bottle of Firewhiskey?" He pointed to the bottle tucked under Hayley's arm.
You sighed. "Alright, you caught us. We're going down to the lake."
"Y/N!" Hayley protested. "Why would you tell him that? He's a Prefect!"
"And on the Inquisitorial Squad," Curtis added.
"Oh, calm down. He won't tell. Will you, Draco?" You asked, locking eyes with him.
Draco hated to admit it, but you were right. He wouldn't tell; not on you, at least. If Curtis and Hayley tried to sneak out on their own, that would have been a different story. They were lucky you were with them as Draco had a large soft spot for you that you took advantage of quite frequently.
"Just... don't be out too late," he said.
Hayley gave him a dumbfounded look and you just grinned at him. "You're the best!" You gushed, rushing forward and giving him a quick peck on the cheek. Draco flushed bright red as you ran back over to your friends, beginning to usher them away.
Draco shook his head, turning away from the trio to continue his Prefect duties, but that was when he heard your voice again. This time calling out his name.
He spun around at the sound of your voice, cursing himself for being so taken with you and wondering what else you might get him to do for you. But that was when you did something unexpected. You invited him to join you.
"Why don't you come with us?" You asked him. Hayley began to protest beside her while Curtis started to laugh. Draco could understand the humor in the question.
Nobody would ever imagine Y/N L/N asking Draco Malfoy to sneak out with her in the middle of the night. And on the flip side, nobody could imagine Draco Malfoy willingly hanging out with a band of Gryffindors at any time. He scoffed, "Not in a million years."
You pouted. "But It'll be fun!"
"I highly doubt that," Draco replied, trying with all his might to resist this girl. He put on his best scowl to solidify that the idea was ludicrous.
"C'mon, Malfoy. Wipe that scowl off your face." He just scowled even more and you laughed. "You know you want to."
"Even if I did, Umbridge would have my ass if she found out. I'm already stressed enough."
"All the more reason. This will help with your stress." You dangled the bottle of Firewhiskey in front of him.
"Just leave it, Y/N. He's not coming," Curtis said, nudging you with his elbow.
You shrugged. "You're loss," you said before turning and following your friends down the corridor. You turned one more time, walking backwards, and shouted, "Live a little, Malfoy!"
Draco cringed, half expecting a professor to come flying out of their chambers, but nothing happened. You were lucky like that; always had been. He noted the carefree grin on your face before you turned away from him.
He rolled his eyes, letting you get a bit farther away before he had a moment of insanity and called out to you. You stopped and waited for him to catch up; smiling and slinging an arm around his shoulders. "I knew you'd come around!"
"If we get caught, I swear..." he trailed off as you let out another intoxicating laugh. Now that he was closer to you, it affected him more strongly.
"You worry too much. We won't get caught. We're going to have a great time. I promise you."
    "You better be right."
The four of you somehow managed to make it all the way down to the lake without incident, and settled into a comfortable conversation. The four of you passed the bottle of Firewhiskey back and forth between, getting a nice buzz. It was needed after enduring Umbridge's rule.
Then, all of the sudden, you stood up and began stripping out of your clothes until only your undergarments remained. Draco was shocked by the sudden action, but he couldn't help but ogle you; in part because he was definitely attracted to you, the other part because he was confused about what was happening.
Curtis rolled his eyes at you, seemingly knowing what was going on, but he still asked, "And what do you think you're doing?"
"I'm going for a swim," you replied, simply.
Draco's eyes widened in panic. "A swim?!" He asked, "What if you get attacked by the giant squid? Or the grindylows?!"
You just smiled at him, replying cheekily, "Then you'll just have to come save me."
Draco watched you, dumbfounded, as you entered the lake. He had no idea how you could be so... carefree? Reckless? He wasn't sure, but he loved it about you.
    "She's fucking insane," Hayley said.
"Yeah," agreed Curtis. "But you gotta love her."
"Oh, for sure," Draco said, without thinking.
The two Gryffindors didn't say anything, just smirked at each other knowingly. Then all of their attention snapped towards you as you beckoned them into the water. "Come on, guys!" You shouted.
    "Hell no!" Curtis yelled back.
"Get your crazy ass back up here," Hayley added, but it fell on deaf ears.
"You guys are no fun!" You shouted back at them, but went back to your swimming.
A few quiet moments passed before you let out a scream, thrashing around in the water before sinking below the surface. Curtis and Hayley jumped up, but Draco was faster; throwing his robes to the ground and kicking off his shoes before diving into the water after you. He swam over to you, finding you under the water and pulling you up towards the surface with ease.
"What happened?" He demanded. "Are you hurt? Was it the grindylows?"
You shook you head, smiling at him. "Nothing's wrong," you told him.
    "What? Why'd you scream?"
"I just wanted to get you in here."
Draco hardened. "Are you kidding me? You scared me half to death! Why would you do that?"
"Oh, calm yourself, Malfoy," you said, grabbing his shoulder and pulling him into a kiss. "Live a little, Malfoy," you whispered against his lips.
