Waking up from yet another nightmare, Lyra wasted no time in getting up, dressed, and out the house for a quick run. She'd grown used to the nightmares. Often, she didn't wake up scared and sweating anymore but fed up about the fact that they wouldn't allow her to sleep.

She knew they'd get worse after living through a Hunger Games because she wouldn't be able to reassure herself. To tell herself it's not real and it's just her mind trying to worry her again. But she couldn't say that if the nightmares were reminders of events that had happened, deaths she had caused.

She stopped off at the docks on her run, knowing this could, potentially, be the last time she ever sees the sea she sought comfort in.

The waves clashed against each other, mirroring the anxiety behind Lyra's blue eyes.

She saw her ex-boyfriend, Matthew, across the beech with his father about to go fishing for the morning. He spotted her on the docks and smiled with a wave.

Lyra waved back. They were on good terms.

They'd started dating after the sixty-seventh games when Lyra was sixteen, Matthew being seventeen. He wasn't the smartest person and had been kept back a year so he was in her class. That's how they'd met. They dated for a few months but decided to just be friends. He's dating someone else now anyway. Her name is Coral. She's nice. Pretty. Lyra had introduced them.

Does a part of Lyra still like Matt? Yes, he was her first boyfriend after all.

Does a part of Matt still like, no love, Lyra? Yes. Lyra, however, had no idea Matt still had feelings for her, she assumed he had moved on considering he is pretty serious with Coral now.

Matthew had been Lyra's first boyfriend, her first kiss, her first crush. So it was only natural that she'd be a bit hung up on him.

But had Lyra ever loved Matthew? In reality, it was just a strong crush, a first relationship, but, as she had nothing to compare it to, she had thought he was the one she would grow to love at the time. How wrong she had been.

He'd meet her at the docks every morning after her run and they'd talk whilst he waited for his dad to meet him at their old boat.

He'd come over for tea every now and then. Jared thought he was alright but not good enough for his daughter (not that he'd actually said that to their faces but Lyra had seen it in her fathers eyes the second he had shook the boys hand), Cole said he smelled funny (who knows with that boy) but Caspian didn't like him. He thought he was a bit toxic. He didn't make Lyra happy, Caspian could tell as he'd known Lyra a long time, but Matthew seemed to have convinced Lyra that she was happy. Lyra still hadn't realised how miserable she had actually been with him because it's been so long since she'd been genuinely, freely, happy.

She was snapped from her thoughts when she saw his figure approaching. He was soon stood before her, "hey! I, uh, I have something to, uh, to say. To you."
