Sky shuffled from one end of the room to the other frantically looking for the pieces of his uniform. He was running late for school, which he hated. But he smiled to himself remembering what it was that had made him late.
The night before had been the three-year anniversary of Sky and Prapai. Pai had made reservations at a fancy restaurant, but they decided to stay in instead. It wasn't because they had become a boring couple. In fact, it was just the opposite.
Sky didn't need the frills and fuss those other relationships had because he wasn't that kind of person. The only thing he had ever needed was someone to love him. Well, someone that loved Sky just as much as Sky loved him.
Pai had given him a new suit to wear to the restaurant, which Sky had diligently worn in honor of their anniversary. He took his time to get ready, making sure he didn't forget anything; from Pai's favorite cologne to the purple handkerchief he tucked into the breast pocket. His eyes became misty as he stared at himself in the mirror, wanting so much to tell the old Sky that it would be alright. That someone who truly loved him was waiting for him in the future.
That night, as Pai entered the condo, he watched carefully as Sky stepped into the hallway and smiled from ear to ear. The grin that Sky loved the most. The one that told him that Sky was the only one he saw in his heart.
"Are we ready to go?" Sky felt Prapai's eyes on him as he made his way down the hallway, which made him a little shy. "P'Pai?"
Pai stared for a long time before answering. "I...shouldn't have bought you that suit." Prapai stammered. "You look..."
"What's wrong?" Sky looked down at himself, checking himself in the hallway mirror. It fit just fine. Was he wearing the wrong cologne? He smelled himself just to be sure.
"No...I mean...you look fine, but..." Pai was still stammering, making Sky a little anxious. "I want to take it off of you."
"What?" Before Sky could ask what was going on, Prapai stepped forward, completely closing the gap between them, and wrapped his arms tightly around Sky's waist. He started placing soft kisses on Sky's lips at first, but they quickly grew more feverish as Pai grew more impatient. Sky parted his lips in response, deepening their kiss.
Sky could feel himself being lifted off the ground, and he placed his arms around Pai's neck, wrapping his legs tightly around Pai's waist. He cupped his boyfriend's face in his hands and began kissing him again, wanting nothing more than to feel Pai's lips against his. Now he understood what Pai meant when he said he wanted to take the suit off-not because he hated it...but because he liked it.
The next morning, Sky awoke to Pai's arms wrapped tightly around him. He could feel the rise and fall of his chest as they lay together, and he could hear Pai's soft breathing. The sun came through the window, making a soft beam that landed on Pai's face, illuminating his long eyelashes. Sky lifted his hand and brushed his thumb along Pai's soft cheek.
Prapai's eyes fluttered open, and he turned to see Sky looking up at him. He smiled and planted a kiss on Sky's head. "Did you sleep ok?"
"I slept fine." He nodded. Sky's stomach rumbled, making them both laugh. "I guess we forgot about dinner..."
