Five Years Later...

"It's a boy?" Prapai shouted. He stood in the doctor's office looking at the monitor. The woman on the table grabbed his hand and placed it to her belly. "I can feel him kicking!"

"You're so dramatic!" Sky said. "And you don't have to let the other side of Thailand hear you."

"Sorry..." Pai laced his fingers through his boyfriend's hand and pulled it up to the woman's belly. "That's our baby, Sky."

"Have you thought of a name?" Sunny, their surrogate, sat up from the table and pulled her legs over the edge. Her belly was getting so big that she had to wiggle herself off of the edge onto the floor.

"We wanted to know the gender first." Sky said. "But now that we know it's a boy, we were thinking of naming him Talay."

Prapai pulled his boyfriend close as they walked out of the obstetrician's office, trying not to beam at everyone he passed and resisting the urge to shout, "We're having a boy!"

A little later, Sky stood waiting by the stairwell with Phayu in the home he shared with Rain and their daughter Rainbow. Sky could tell he was holding back tears. He placed a hand on his friend's shoulder and smiled.

"She's going off to school, not to war, Phayu. She will be fine."

"You'll understand when your little one is older." Phayu said. "By the way, how did the appointment go this morning?"

Just then, Rain descended the stairs with his daughter in tow. Both he and Phayu were beaming as they watched her. She looked adorable in her new uniform. Sky started thinking about his own child, and the milestones that he and Pai would witness together. They were finally starting a family, and everything suddenly felt complete.

"Uncle Sky, take a picture with me!" Rainbow took his hand and guided him to the bottom of the stairs. She smiled the widest smile anyone has ever given him and raised her arms for a hug. He got down on one knee and gave her a hug around the middle, while she threw her arms around his neck. His heart fluttered as they posed, and he suddenly understood where Phayu was coming from.

Sky watched for Prapai to come in, but he was starting to grow anxious as Rainbow was getting ready to leave with Phayu. He was a little irritated when Pai said he had to go into work for a while. Suddenly, the door opened and Pai slipped in quietly, raising a hand in greeting. Sky smiled and waved back.

"You've become quite the crybaby since adopting Rainbow. What are we going to do with you?" Prapai stepped up, leaning on the railing while he shook his head at Phayu, who had been teary since the subject of Rainbow going to school was announced.

"Uncle Pai! I knew you were going to make it!" Rainbow raced toward him, and he lifted her off the ground, placing a kiss on her cheek, then setting her back down. "Of course, I made it! You didn't think I'd miss sending you off on your first day of school, did you?" Sky watched in awe of him, as he imagined the same interaction with their own child one day. His heart leapt as Pai sauntered over and laced their hands together, placing a kiss on his cheek.

Sky squeezed tightly, the secret message between them that he was turned on. Seeing him with Rainbow was all the confirmation that he needed to know he was with the right man, and that Prapai was going to be a good father. Prapai squeezed back, then looked slyly at him to let him know he was onboard.

They quickly said goodbye to Rainbow as she climbed into the back of Phayu's hummer. She poked her head out of the window for one last wave, and then they were gone. Sky noticed Pai getting misty-eyed as they turned to leave.

"What's going on?" Rain came over and put his arm around the two partners. "Did you finally find out what you're having?"

Prapai was nearly bursting at the seams as he smiled widely at his friend. "We're having a boy!" He shouted. Both he and Sky burst into laughter, and Rain gave both of his friends a congratulatory hug.

"I honestly thought that he might spontaneously combust if he didn't tell someone soon!" Sky said, still laughing. He was just as excited a Pai, but he was happy to see his boyfriend so ecstatic, so he let Pai have his moment.

His heart was nearly beating out of his chest as he watched him telling the story to Rain, and he knew that his life had finally come full circle. Everything that had happened until now had led to this one perfect moment in time and he could finally be happy with the person that he loves; without fear, without jealousy, and with equal strength.
