'This job outta make me money. I need to find my family. This job outta make me money. I need to find my family.' The same thing repeated in my head like a mantra since the moment I woke up.
Ding
I nod to the man at the counter and ask for a coffee. There weren't many people sitting, just this one particular man. Though, he looked familiar. I feel like I've seen him from my childhood before, or was it a dream? He then looks up at me, sipping his drink. "Miss, by any chance, are you from the ___ family?" It seems as if he had a similar thought as me. "Yes. Yes, I am."
"Ah, your father's my best friend. How have you been?" The elder talked while she took a seat. y/n was internally confused but happy at the same time. 'Could this lead to me finding my family?' She thought.
"I have been good. What about you?" She asked, only to be polite. She wanted to get to the important questions about her family. "I'm managing. These old bones don't let me do much, but I still try. Say, how has your father been? And your mother?"
"Actually, I was going to ask you the same question. I haven't seen them in several years." y/n couldn't think of why he would ask such a question if he was their friend. "Oh my. I haven't seen them either. But I remember when you were this small." He showed her how short she was.
Elder's POV
To verify this was y/n l/n, I decided to ask a seemingly simple question. "Tell me, do you remember me?" If she answers yes, she's not her. If she answers no, then she must be her. "No, I'm sorry, I don't remember you. I honestly don't remember much of my family. You see, my family got kidnapped. And they're probably finding me as we speak." Poor girl, she believes the lies her mind told her. Her only motivation is her family.
I was not going to inform her of what her parents said; it would only shatter the poor girl's heart to know her parents said she was dead. But, of course, I knew she wasn't dead, Yvette told me.
"I see." I felt terrible for lying to her, making her believe I was a family friend. "I am sorry to hear that. Now I understand why they never spoke with me again." This girl is gullible.
"It's fine. I haven't made much progress. For a couple of years in my life, a woman took care of me. But, unfortunately, she told me she couldn't travel with me any longer. So, she returned home. Her name was Yami. Yami never told me much about her." y/n spoke with such sadness. But I could tell she loved her very much.
Yami. That was her nickname. Or the name she told people whom she knew she had to leave. Only her friends knew her real name. She was a powerful woman but never valued herself and her abilities. That woman loved children, especially orphans, but was scared she wouldn't bring them up well. So she always hid from the world. Yami always thought she would mess up and wouldn't have the power to fix it. Her thinking abilities were much like Dazai and Fyodor, but she thought it would cause great destruction.
Yami's family died in a fire when she was just a child; people said she was the cause of her family's death, and she believed it. In reality, it was her twin sister. Her sister hated her family because they favored Yami for her ability and her intelligence. So, her twin sister burned their house, fully aware that Yami couldn't revive ashes. Everyone around saw Yami holding a box of matches in the front yard, and they thought she had done it. In these times, it's a curse to have a poker face. She fled before anyone could catch her. That's when she moved to Japan.
"Hirotsu, It was my fault my family died. My twin sister should've never felt that pain. She told me her feelings when she was in a rage. I-I feel horrible." Yvette said in a panic. She was venting to me because I had asked her what was bothering her. "Yami, I think it was best for them to go. Everything happens for a reason. But you'll live in constant pain and guilt if you can't understand that." Yvette was a stubborn woman. "No, if I had been there earlier instead of mingling with my friends, they could've been alive." I let her be. I wasn't going to argue with her about this.
"Very well then; I hope you have a good day." I felt terrible about leaving because, on the same day, Yvette lost her job as a reporter and got evicted. In the next few days, she found y/n and returned to America to find her parents. It broke my heart to discover that she blamed herself daily for her family's death. Yami even blamed herself for her brother's death wish.
She came back, leaving y/n from America many years later. Her best friend, Mori, always lent her a speed boat and gave her things she may need. In return, she would advise him but refused to be part of the Port Mafia. After she saved Oda, she told me she would try to start a life. She would get a job and live peacefully.
"...And that's pretty much it. You look tired; resting must be better than hearing me talk about my past. Oh my, look at the time; I need to go now, have a good day, sir!" y/n left, hurrying upstairs. She didn't touch her coffee. I'll take it. Today's my day off, after all.
This girl doesn't know much. She believes her family cares for her. But, poor girl, even her friends died in school shootings. But she doesn't know that. y/n ended her friendship, saying she'll look for her family, and left. They died two years after she left. I could tell she hated to leave them behind. She suspects everything's okay. But it's not for me to tell her.

Hello Everybody!
I don't know why Yami reminds me of snow or a flower. I'm sorry if the story looks pretty complicated.
