This school was great, they had normal subjects for the 11th and 12 graders, but I could choose to take art or writing as an extra subject. There were more subjects that I couldn't remember, but I chose not to. If there is still a chance that we are going to move there is kind of no point in making long term plans. The cafeteria was just as full of light as the classrooms. It had the different symbols for the different kind of species in the world. Vampires were a circle with a cursive "V" in it, but it was like it was part of the circle. The rest were Celtic symbols for the different species.
The cafeteria had a self-serving buffet. All different kind of food going from salads to sandwiches. And for the vamps blood, but that was on the other side, as to make sure people didn't lose their appetites. After lunch we had more classes and George, and I mostly had all the classes together. There was one we didn't have together, but he was still there when classes ended. He kept asking me about where I lived before, why we moved and the other general questions, like what is my favourite color and what is my favourite book. I kept my answers short and brief. Making sure I didn't give away any important information. He luckily did most of the talking. It was like he didn't have anyone to talk to.
I kept getting stares from everyone, especially the blonde girl who seems to be everywhere I went. I chose to ignore her. The day went by quickly. I was standing under the tree my parents told me to wait for them. George and I had parted our ways when the school day ended. I watched as the students greeted each other and how happy they were. I wished I had that, I did once, and it was recently. I took a deep breath pushing back the memories that hurt me.
There were a few students still on campus when it hit 5:32 pm. That was when I noticed the blonde girl and her clones walking toward me. The other girls looked as much as brats as she did, the only difference was that they had different clothes and hair colors.
"Hey, you," the blonde girl said in a high-pitched voice when they reached me.
I looked around to see if she might have been talking to someone else. Only to find me standing alone. "I'm sorry are you talking to me?" I asked with the slightest bit of attitude. I didn't like the way she was approaching me.
"Yeah who else?" she asked, before I could respond she went on, Anyway, I'm here to make sure you know your place," she said with venom.
"Oh really? And where is that exactly?" I asked crossing my arms.
"You're the new girl, you are at the bottom. You need to get one thing straight. This is my school; I say what goes and what doesn't. And when I say something, you do it. Got it?" she came closer toward me. I felt my temper flare, I knew it was just the full moon keeping me on edge, but I wasn't going to let this delusional freak tell me what to do.
"Anna?" I heard George's voice, the girls backed away showing him stand behind them. He looked concerned. "Oh, look it's the loser, come to save your girlfriend?" a girl with red hair said and they all giggled.
"I see," the blonde said taking a step back. "I've been seeing you together since this morning. No wonder, mixing with a loser like him? I guess it takes one to know one," they laughed. And I snapped.
"Ok listen here your delusional freak. You should learn your place. I do what I want and I'm friends with whoever I choose. You don't get to pick or bully on someone who isn't just as shallow and dumb as you. So back off and stay away. You don't want to mess with me," I came closer to her until my face was just a few inches away from hers.
I was still looking into her eyes when I felt an arm grab me and pulling me away. I looked at the person, expecting my dad, instead it was George. I didn't say anything, but I heard the blonde say, "You've made an enemy new girl.
You're going to regret it,"
George dragged me further away from them, I wanted to turn around and punch them, but he used his vampire strength to make sure I couldn't.
When we went around the main building that looked like an auditorium. After we were far enough, he let me go and stood there looking at me emotionless. I of course was still fuming. I knew if I turned around to walk back, that George would stop me before I would take the first step.
"Anna, listen to me," he said grimly. "You shouldn't defend me, and you shouldn't mess with that girl," he continued when I looked at him.
"Why? What makes her so special?" I exclaimed. He kept his expression and his voice calm, "For one thing she's a vampire that can kill you and get away with it because secondly she's the mayors daughter. One word from her and your and your parent's lives will be hell. Trust me it's better if you just stay quiet and stay in the background," he explained. And he had a point. If my parents found out that I ticked off the mayors daughter they'd move us without a second thought. I took a deep breath and nodded, "You're right".
I suddenly remembered that my parents were supposed to pick me up. I started running back George stopped me before I could get far, "Don't worry I'm fine. I remembered my parents are supposed to be here by now," I explained quickly, "Oh," he let go of me and ran with me back to the tree my parents pointed out. They weren't there yet. I took out my phone and looked at the time. The letters were like a panic button for me, the numbers stood out from its default wallpaper, "6:06 pm". "They should have been here by now," I whispered. I dialled their numbers and waited for them to pick up the phone. Both of their phone's went to voice mail after 6 rings.
If they were on their way, they would make it to the house. I started to panic inwardly keeping my external expression calm.
"Hey, I have a car. I can drop you off if you want," George said with a half-smile.
"Yes please. I'll try them again and leave a voice mail," I said.
I called them again and they didn't answer. I only explained that George was going to take me home and if they were on their way they should head back. George had a vintage Volkswagen beetle. It looked brand new. As we drove, we both remained silent and I hoped that they were home, safely tucked away in the basement. Before long we arrived at my house. The first thing I noticed was the driveway was empty. The second, was that the house was dark. The little bit of hope I had evaporated immediately. I had thanked George and greeted him. Letting the words rush out of my mouth. He greeted me and stayed in front of my house until I reached the front door. Then he backed out and drove off. I got the spare key from under the welcome mat. I quickly unlocked the door, closing it as fast as I opened it. I flicked on the lights as I went toward the basement. When I turned on the basement light, I saw the two cages my dad had probably installed that morning. I knew that they should have already changed by now. They should have been here. I couldn't go out and look for them. I wouldn't know where they would be for starters. Not to mention I knew they weren't on their way to the school. George and I would have passed them. So, I did the one thing, the only thing I could do. Wait and hope that they were safe.
I threw my bag on the floor next to the couch in front of the window and sat on it, with my phone in my hand.
Hoping they don't get caught or hurt
