Steven swore under his breath, "These locks are anti-magic," a frown of worry started to appear.

"I got it," I said confidently. Pulling hard on the chains, willing them to break. They did. The shackle still over my wrist. He looked impressed.

"That door won't be easy to open but not impossible. Since I'm only a mage, I'm no match for Franklin's magic," he sounded thoughtful but panicked. "There is a slight flaw to your plan here. You locked us in," I explained.

"No," he shook his head, he grabbed my hand and rushed me to the far corner of the room. There was a vent. "This leads to the outside. We are about 4 miles from the school, if you make a run for it, you can make it," he explained and popped open the vent.

"What will happened to you?" I asked furrowing my brows.

"Don't worry about me. I can take care of myself," he smiled.

"Get back," Franklin's voice said.

"Go now," he whispered.

"Thank you," I said quickly and gave him a kiss on his cheek, then I scurried into the vent.

"Invisible," I heard Steven say, and then an explosion. Rocks flying and the bang of the metal door hitting the floor.

I rushed through the vent. It was big enough for me to crawl through it. I rounded the corner at the end and kept going. Voices echoed through the vent.

"Where is she?!" Bobby exclaimed.

"She's gone. You won't find her," Steven said a smile in his voice.

"Oh, Stevie boy. You made a big mistake," Franklins voice echoed, followed by grunts.

They were either fighting or beating him up. I ignored it and kept going.

I rounded the next corner and there was the outside. It wasn't underground, which worked in my favour. The fan at the end of the vent was old and stood still. I laid on my back and kicked it as hard as I could. It popped out the third try. It might have been old, but it was sturdy. I crawled outside landing on my butt in the process. I hissed and stood up. I ran, ran as fast as I could. I couldn't see the building anymore, but I knew they might kill him. It didn't matter I was out.

'Is that how you're going to thank the man that just saved your life?' my inner voice asked. I was torn between wanting to save Steven and running to the school. Or I hoped where the school was.

I sighed. Ticked off with myself. I couldn't leave him there. I turned around and darted through the trees. When I was close enough to the building, I hid behind a bush in case they came out looking for me. I listened; they weren't near the entrance. I sneaked toward the door; they sounded as if they were still in the room I was held. I rounded the corner looking for a window. There was a window, but it was high, almost against the roof, I bent my legs and jumped. I grabbed the ledge, there was just enough space for my fingers. I hung there, 'What now?' I thought to myself.

I pulled myself up, so I could see into the room there was a table in the middle of the room like the one I was held in, only this one had chairs around it. They were moved around as people sat in them. The floor and table were littered with beer bottles and Chinese boxes. I looked to my right and there was a big hole in the wall. Franklin must have used a spell to blow up the door. I could hear the rattling of chains. They were probably tying him up too. They clearly didn't give a damn about me if they didn't come after me.

The sound of tires slowly driving over the ground sounded around the corner I just came from. I let go of the window and landed on the floor with a soft thud. I sneaked to the corner and saw a black SUV rolling to the building. 'Yep. That is a bad guy car' I thought. I quickly ran to the back side of the building, listening closely. In case, whoever that was, would look around the corner. The car stopped, the engine went silent, and a door opened and closed. I heard footsteps, they stopped abruptly for a moment and opened the door of the bunker. When the door closed, I snuck back to the window. Hoisting myself back up. There was a muscular man in a suit and blonde hair walking slowly to the hole in the wall.

"What happened here?" the man's deep voice asked softly.

It was slightly muffled.

"Boss," Bobby's voice sounded surprised.

"Boss, the package escaped," Franklin explained.

"Did he take part," he was obviously referring to Steven.

"Yes," Franklin said. There was a moment of silence.

"Did you at least recapture her?" the boss asked calmly.

"N-no sir, we were fighting him," Bobby explained. "So you're telling me that you let her escape just because you couldn't handle him?" he lost a bit of his composure.

"Yes sir," Franklin said in defeat. "You really are useless," He spat.

"And what do you have to say for yourself?" he asked and there was a moment of silence.

"I did what was right," Steven said, his voice was full of hate and anger. The boss tutted.

"Since when did you grow a conscious?" the boss asked him.

"It looks like I have to give you the punishment you deserve. You disappointed me, my nephew," the boss said coldly.

I froze. Steven was their boss's nephew. I hear what sounded like a gun being taken out of a holster.

"At least she's safe from you. I only regret not doing it sooner," Steven said firmly.

Then the loud bang of a gun went off. It left a slight ringing in my ears. I let go of the window, cupping my mouth. He killed him. His own nephew. Steven is dead. I was frozen.

"Search for her. She couldn't have gone far. The boss walked out, got into his car, and drove off. I stood up and started running. I didn't care where I was going as long as it was far away. I ran and ran. I was a long way off when I heard screams. I was too horrified to turn back, that only freaked me out even more. My run became a sprint. I was faster, I could feel it in my legs and the air around me. I found a lake and ran past it. I was bound to come across a trail or people eventually. You would think all of this would happen at sunset or night. When the darkness was creeping toward the woods, but all this happened in the middle of the day.

Tears started to well up in my eyes.

I ran for a while when I got tired. Using a tree, I rested by leaning against it. My breaths were fast, and my heart pounded. I stared at the ground; Steven's face flashed through my mind. That made me break down. I cried. Actually cried. It didn't happen as often as you would think. Being raised by my dad or the version I had now, I learned not to show weakness. Or that's what I thought. A hand touched my shoulder, and I screamed thinking it was Franklin or Bobby. I wanted to run but whoever it had held me tight using their arms to hold me. "Anna it's me!" my dad's voice bellowed. I just screamed and kicked. It could have been a trick. He just held me tighter. "Annie! Sweetie calm down!" my dad exclaimed. I stopped for a moment taking a few panting breaths still pulling away. I sniffed the air and looked around. It really was my dad, he had dark rings under his eyes, and he seemed greyer, or had the time away from him, made him look older. I studied him a bit longer. He smiled, "It's me. You're safe," and it really was him. I turned and hugged him. I cried frantically. He hugged me back holding my head as I cried into his shoulder.
