Since that day, Yohan has stuck to me like glue. He leaves before I wake up and always returns if not by midday, then just before sundown. He often asks how I am feeling or if I need anything. I have to admit, I felt better since telling him about my mother. There was no judgment or look of disgust from him. The only thing left for me to do is tell him about Lord Baldwin. I'm not too sure how that conversation is going to go. I also don't know if he wants to listen to that. But he has to know.
He has to listen.
I wanted to go to a secluded location before talking to him. But unfortunately, we were met with a summer rainstorm. I've never experienced rain during the summer months. It rarely rains in the desert and when it does, it is only for a brief moment. I can't believe how humid it has been in Sincheon.
Yohan lay by my side as I sat up peering out the window. The way So-hee told me to hurry to the temple almost made it seem as if the gods would strike anyone who dared to stay outside. I sat with one of my legs propped up to my chest.
"What's wrong?"
I looked at Yohan to see him peeling a tangerine.
"Have you never seen rain before?"
I looked back out the window. "It rarely rains in Khurut..."
"Does it rain in Ainde?"
"From what I remember, yes. But only during the spring."
"Does it snow?"
"Yes. But only for a month." I turned to him as he held a tangerine slice to my lips.
"Do you prefer winter over spring?"
"I love winter." I smiled softly. "I remember my mother telling me that I was born on the first snow of the year." I bit down on the tangerine slice.
"What about winter do you like?"
"I like how soft the snow looks. How beautiful the scenery is." I looked down at him. "What about you? What is your favorite season?"
Yohan thought for a moment. "Autumn."
"Autumn?" I laughed.
"Yes." he stuck a tangerine slice between his lips. "It's the most beautiful season to me. I love how the leaves change to many shades of red, orange, and yellow."
"You're right." I said. "It is pretty."
Yohan pursed his lips.
I looked down at him only to see that something was weighing on him. "Yohan, what is it?"
"...When...was the last time you bled?"
I thought for a moment before counting on my fingers. "A few days ago."
"Have you been feeling ill?"
"No." it was also several days since his rut.
"Good." he sighed.
"You know..." I pulled my knees to my chest. "I've been wondering..."
"What has been on your mind?"
"We have sex quite a bit. I've always found it odd that I haven't gotten pregnant..."
Yohan pursed his lips.
I feel like both of us have been thinking about this from time to time. But neither of us has wanted to talk about it. I sure didn't. I looked down before resting my chin on top of my knees.
Yohan sat up and combed his fingers through his hair.
"You know...I've been thinking...what if we can't have children?"
