"Y-You wh-what!" the marital official was simply taken aback by the emperor's sudden request.

Emperor Kang sighed heavily before repositioning himself in his seat. "I would like to request the documents necessary to end my engagement."

"B-But Emperor Kang! This is the longest engagement that you have ever had! Many of the citizens both inside and outside of the city are praising Lady Abedayo!"

"Praising her for what?" Emperor Kang questioned. "She hasn't done anything."

The marital official stood on the opposite side of the desk facing the emperor. He wasn't sure what was going on in the emperor's head. But he could tell that his questions would never be answered.

"I don't think that is true. She has-."

"Bring me the documents. I want them tomorrow morning."

The marital official pulled his hands down his face. "Emperor Kang...please reconsider. You have been engaged several times. Do you really want to go through the process of finding another woman suitable for marriage all over again?"

Emperor Kang narrowed his eyes. "Do you dare question my decision?"

The official sharply bowed his head. "I will return tomorrow morning with the documents."

Emperor Kang and the marital official both looked up as Elder Kang stepped into the imperial study.

"Elder Kang." the official bowed his head.

"What's going on?" she asked. "Why is the marital official here?"

Emperor Kang sighed. "Please do not forget."

"...Y-Yes, Emperor Kang..." the official bowed to the emperor before walking past Elder Kang. He bowed to her before quickly running off.

"Yohan...what are you planning?" Elder Kang inquired. "What's going on?"

"I am going to break the engagement."

"What?"

"I am going to end my engagement with Zurine."

Elder Kang's eyes widened with shock.

"It is very clear that she no longer wants to be with me. Why should I-?"

"You fucking moron!" Elder Kang's hand left a sting on his cheek. "Are you mental! Are you insane! What is wrong with you?"

Emperor Kang held his hand to his left cheek. His eyes burned as he gazed upon his grandmother who stood fuming.

"Are you so weak that you would just let your relationship fall apart? Do you not even care anymore!" Elder Kang slammed her hands on his desk. The ink bottle toppled onto its side before rolling onto the floor at her feet. "You fought for so long to have her. You even went after her when she ran away with Lord Baldwin! Now that you are having misunderstandings in your relationship, you want to end things here? You want to call off your engagement over this!"

"Why should I try when-?"
"Have you ever even thought for a second what Zurine is feeling? Have you ever thought for a second about what she could be going through? Are you so blind and self-centered that you are only caring about yourself?"

Emperor Kang narrowed his eyes.

"Even your father fought to be with your mother. Every wolf demon is aware of the stigma that betas have. And you can't even fight for Zurine? A moon child? A god among us? Are you so weak that you can't fight for her!"

The emperor looked away.

"I thought you were an alpha." she growled. "Not some weak pup who can't solve his own problems." she stormed out of the study, slamming the door behind her.
