"We're here"

She silently stared out the window the whole ride, her breath hitched when she heard my words. I could tell she was nervous and so was I. But I had to man up and find a way to calm her.

"I've been to a lot of these events but I still get nervous every time" I chuckled dryly. She looked over at me with her big brown eyes, "Really" she pouted her big lips.

I nodded. She sighed, "Well that makes two of us". I smiled at her, "At least we'll have each other" she smiled back and nodded. I stepped out the car and made my way to open the door for her.

I watched as her smooth legs slowly moved out of the car, I grabbed her hand to help her out. Closing the car door behind her, I nervously placed my hand on the small of her back. I threw the valet my keys and we made our way in.

I could feel her tense up as we walked in, as did I. I could never get used to this environment, a bunch of loud rich snobs. But I could definitely get used to doing it with her. I looked down at her to see her biting on her bottom lip, I began rubbing my thumb on her back.

She looked up at me with her big eyes while still biting down on her lip,

Oh fuck me..

"Ready?" She nodded

We walked in having the smell of expensive perfumes and champagne fill our nostrils. Bodies in designer dresses and tuxedos crowded, walking in was the worst part of this whole thing.

Anxiety began to fill my body, I felt a squeeze on my arm immediately calming me. We walked in farther to be greeted with a server and champagne filled glasses. We both took one each.

I sighed as my business associate, Garret and his stuck up wife walked towards us, "Adam! It's been a while" He chuckled gripping my hand tightly into what he thinks is a handshake.

He eyes wandered towards Imani, "And who is this gorgeous young lady" He said weirdly making my stomach turn. His wife nudged him slightly and he quickly changed his demeanor.

"This is my friend, Imani" Imani smiled holding out her hand for him to shake but instead he kissed. His wife scowled, she was not pleased with his actions at all. "She also made my tuxedo" I added.

"Oh! So you're his assistant" His wife smiled sarcastically. I internally groaned, "No ma'am, I run my own business." Imani said returning the sarcastic smile.

"How cute" The bitter lady replied. I could tell Imani didn't like that subliminal comment by the claws gripping my arm. "Mhm, real cute. And since we're on the topic of assistants, I'm looking for one if you ever need a job" The lady's scowl worsened.

"Okay I think we're done here. Adam it was lovely seeing you again and Imani I'll have to look into you. Have a nice night!"

Imani waved and smiled, "That went well" She said drinking a sip of champagne. I chuckled lowly, "Y-Yeah".

"How do you do these things, all these entitled people" She scowled as she scoped around the place.

I sighed, "I-I don't know" She hummed. My face began to heat up as she just stared at me while swirling her drink. "I don't mean to be rude when I say this but how come you always stutter when talking to me?"

"You didn't stutter not once when talking to that man but suddenly it comes back...I thought you had a stuttering problem for a while but it seems to be only with me."

I stared at her blankly.

"I'm sorry, I'm just being crazy. You don't have to explain yourself to me" She said turning to look away at the crowd.

We sat in silence for a few minutes until I could gather the confidence to reply. "Y-You're not being crazy. And no, I don't n-necessarily have a stuttering problem. When i'm n-nervous I have a hard time forming s-sentences."

"Well why are you so nervous? Do I make you nervous? I'm sorry if-"

"Y-Yes! You make me nervous, i-it's not your fault so don't a-apologize." I sigh to collect myself, "Your beauty makes me nervous...you're very beautiful Imani"

She smiles widely, "Thank you Adam, that's means a lot coming from you. Seeing as how handsome you are" I smile back. "Let's go get some more business, shall we?" She said wrapping her arms tightly around mine and looking up at me.

I nodded, I could get used to this.
