*Some distant time in the future* (Ahren and Eadlyn are about 13-14)
If I close my eyes, and lay here on my bed, would I be able to picture a life that wasn't here? Isn't here, I should say. I have to keep reminding myself that there won't be a life after this. Maxon loves me. I love him. Anything else is unthinkable.
Just then, a teenage girl walks into my room in a dress that cuts off just above her knee.
Eadlyn. "Mummmmm!" She whines before she's even reached the bed.
I groan and crack open my eyes. "What now, darling?" Her hair falls around her face as she bends over and peers at me.
"Were you.... sleeping?" She asks, her wide eyes confirming my suspicions that she's bewildered at the thought.
"No. I wasn't." I stand up and start to shuffle papers on my desk. "And it's your father who never sleeps. God, I'm worried about him. One day he's going to fall right asleep in the middle of a Report."
My daughter comes over and wraps her arms around me. "It's okay, Mum." She whispers, but her voice is muffled by the woollen fabric of my sleeves. "I'll look after him."
"Yeah." I hear another voice, male this time, say from the doorway. In walks Ahren. Eadlyn's twin. I can still see the look of pure joy on Maxon's face when he held them in his arms for the first time. He was so happy, so young. So... Full of life. I miss that. I miss him. I myself barely get to see him anymore. He's always crammed up in that study of his.
Ahren walks towards us and tackles us both to the bed. He was given his fathers body, I note. Not literally, but he's built the same way. It appears my thoughts cannot drift from Maxon today. The three of us lay on the bed together, the twins on either side of me. We look up at the collage of photos that their father has taken over the years.
I think he might never leave his study again, Maxon. But as always, he surprises us by literally crawling through the door. "I'm here, baby, come and get it...." I drawls tiredly.
"Maxon..." I giggle and sit up. "You do realise the kids are in here too, right?!"
He stands immediately and brushes down his jacket. "Of course. I mean, I uh..." He goes a violent shade of red in the cheeks. "Kids, out. I need to talk to your mother."
"More like make out." Eadlyn smirks and stands.
"More like fuck." Ahren mutters, but all of us hear and gasp.
I reach out and slap his arm. "Go to your room." I scold.
"Or what, you're gonna ground me? What's gonna stop me from ordering the guards to let me out?"
"Me." Maxon interrupts. "Now. Out."
The twins trail out with their heads hanging lower than usual, as I turn to my husband.
"So, what do you want to do?" I ask him. He doesn't reply, just smirks and wraps his arms around me tightly. His nose tickles my neck as he inhales and exhales deeply.
"God, I love the smell of you, America." He murmurs. The hairs all along my back stand on end. He kisses my neck once and slowly starts trailing kisses up to my mouth, sending shivers down my spine with each kiss.
I press my lips against his gently and snake my arm behind his neck. We're never to old for this. "So the kids weren't so far off, huh?" I breathe onto his lips.
"New ones won't be either." He pulls back to grin at me. I shove him playfully and turn to walk away. Before I can make it two steps, Maxon has pulled on my hand and spun me back to him. I'm on him again, and this time, I don't want to stop myself.
Pieces of clothing fall on the ground one by one, hair pins join them. Crowns even. Nothing can stop us. Maxon doesn't bother to protect us. We both know we want another. Why not now?LMAO HOPE YOU LIKE THIS CHAPTER BC ITS INTENSE! also I'm so happy to have brought in the twins and I'm sorry if the ages don't match up. Lol bye.
