Hey everyone! I found an official epi-epilogue to the one. It does say that Lucy and Aspen aren't married in it yet but oh well they're getting married in mine. Enjoy!
It started with me waking with my head resting comfortably on Maxon's chest. Then it consisted of several very long minutes trying to wake him, who never sleeps. It was strange, in less than half a year I would be waking like this every morning. Actually, I will probably be waking like this every morning until then anyway.
Finally I lose patience and slap him on the chest. "Up, sleepyhead!" I yell, the only response being a knock on the door asking if I was okay. I assured the guard I was fine, and he apologised for interrupting. At least it wasn't as bad as that time Aspen walked in...
That's when I remember. What had made Aspen run in. Maxon had tickled me. The plan starts running through my mind as I stuff my hand inside the pillow and retrieve a single feather, then quietly tip toe to Maxon's ensuite and grab his shaving cream.
Carefully I spray the foam onto his hand that lies on the sheets from being wrapped around me. Then I gently begin to tickle him with the father all over his neck and face. "Ugh." He groans, and smacks himself right in the face. Cream goes everywhere and he grunts in surprise.
This time the guard comes running in. He sees the feather in my hand and the cream all over Maxon, laughs and walks out. Of course he did. That guard was Carter.
"I hate you." Maxon tells me as he wipes his face with his clean hand.
"No, you don't." I tease back. Two can play this game. Maxon just sighs heavily, mutters something about it being fine and then out of the blue begins to tickle me.
I squirm hard, trying to escape the muscular arms I once and still do admire. Just... Not when I'm the prisoner of them. "No! Stop, Maxon please... stop!" I squeal.
His hands fall limp. And he kisses me once softly. "Good morning to you too." I giggle. "Now, shoo! Go get dressed! We have a big day ahead. Go!" He flicks his had dismally and I run back through the door that connects our suites.
There waits Mary, Lucy off getting for her own big day. She silently brushes my hair, curls it so it falls down my back in ringlets, zips up my dress- blue with a gold, sparkly waistband and deems me ready to go. When I question how she's going to get ready, she simply tells me she has her own ways.
Mary dismisses herself in the politest manner possible, and I sit on the end of the bed, waiting for Maxon. When I finally hear the knock on the door, I jump and he walks in without bothering for my response. "Well, well, you clean up nicely when you try." he says and he extends his arm for me.
"You aren't too bad yourself." I notice all the official clothing he wears and all the medals on his lapel. "We could hang you with the chandelier."
He just chuckled as I take his arm and we begin our long walk down the stairs."Would... you.. happen... to have... an elevator.. anywhere?" I pant as we reach the bottom of the steps.
"Why do you need one?" He asks simply. I gasp and flex my hands to signal I'm talking about my dress. "Oh, right. As you wish, your majesty." I giggle as we start to walk down the hall to the Great Room.
"Seriously though, why not?" I ask. Maxon stops and pulls me into a side room. He puts his hands on my waist and I wrap mine around his neck in return.
"We did have an elevator, once. But when the rebels started attacking they would use it to do two things- one, hijack it so no one could go up or down in it unless they were a rebel, obviously. Or two, let some palace staff, guards even the king was once caught in it I heard, then jam the lift so it could not move. So they decided to get rid of it." He sighs and leans down to kiss me. "Although now," he says as he pulls away. "seeing as there's no need for the rebels to attack-"
Just as he says that, we hear screams and shattering glass hitting the floor outside our little room. "C'mon." Maxon grabs my hand and tugs it gently, but so much force. "Remember when I first showed you Marlee?" I nod. "We have to use one of those passages, okay?"
"Could the rebels have found it? Could the rebels be in it?!"
"Don't know. This will just take us up a floor, and then we'll be able to hide in my safe room." I nod again. I bunch up as much of my beautiful skirt in my fists and begin to run behind Maxon up the narrow corridor.
"Here," he says as he pulls open the door and we tumble into my room. We bolt across the carpet faster than ever before and swing open the door that joins out suites. From there we run into his bathroom and using both our strength, push the bathtub off the trapdoor hidden underneath. Maxon lifts the piece of wood up and climbs down the ladder and I follow suite. As soon as I am clear of the roof, I reach up and slide the bolt into place, then the steel square that covers the wood from the inside to prevent it being broken into. I scale the rest of the way down the ladder just as Maxon turns on the light switch. Then goes and starts unpacking all the supplies we'll need and I join him. Together we silently move around the room, setting up a bed, starting the water flowing and filling a kettle. Finally, when it's all done, Maxon goes and sits on the floor and I join him once again. He puts his arm around me and I lean my head on his shoulder. He begins to stroke my hair, and in return, I tilt my head upwards, and softly kiss him. I begin to think of May and little Astra back home, even Gerad, and pull away.
"What's wrong?" Maxon asks me, knowing something is wrong. In reply I let the tears drop out of my eyes and roll down my cheeks. He extends his arms and I fall into them, sobbing into his shoulder. "Shh, shh, it's okay." His fingers begin to run through my hair, then running up and down my back.
We stay like that for what seems like forever, or until we hear the knock that only guards know. "Your majesties?" I hear Aspens voice call. "Are you alright in there?"
"Quite fine, is it safe to come up?" Maxon calls.
"Very. Barely any destruction and zero casualties, sir." Maxon is already up the ladder, sliding the metal and the bolt away, finally pushing up. At first, we're both blinded by the light streaming into our little dank room, but the we adjust and climb out into the open. Aspen has left to give us privacy, another thing I can't ever stop thanking him for- knowing when we want to be alone.
"Maxon," I cry again as I throw myself into him. "I thought we were going to stay down there for years!"
"And why would that be a bad thing? You would've been able to be with me for that long."
"I would've been able to be with you forever." I giggle.
"Forever."
