Hello Guys. I thought that before continuing the story in honor of the holidays I would do a December Special. This will be a stand-alone and has nothing to do with the current story that is being written in this book. I hope you guys enjoy it.
Arthit
Saying goodbye to Kongpob was one of the hardest things he had to do. But Arthit did not regret going to the airport nearly four months ago. Smiling to himself he looked down at the ring that Kongpob had given him.
"The Sun is mine. I reserve it." Every single time he thought of those words in which Kongpob had proposed to him; caused his heart to flutter. It was more than a proposal it was a promise to wait for one another. They would call and text when they could. It wasn't always perfect especially because both had a lot going on with one another. Arthit got to know plenty of Kongpob's friends through posts and sometimes Kongpob would talk about them if only briefly.
"I want to talk about us, not anyone else." Kongpob would often say.
Arthit focused on the future. In the meantime, he had been working hard so that when the time came for them both to meet the other's parents there would be no trouble. His mother and father had pressed him about the possibility of getting married.
At first, he had been hesitant to share. More so when they saw the ring on his finger. His mother had been hurt when she asked if that was an engagement ring.
"Why have you never talked about her? When did you meet her?" It was those words that had terrified him from the start. He'd always felt that he was attracted only to women. Labels often felt suffocating and confusing. Especially now. He didn't think about being gay, bisexual, or anything else. What he did know was that being with Kongpob did not make him straight. But it also made him feel right.
All that Arthit knew was that he loved and was loved by another person. This love that the two of them had was something special that he hoped would last a lifetime.
"Arthit." His mother had said to him. Both his father and mother were sitting across from him at the table.
"He is my junior at University. His name is Kongpob Suthiluck. He's studying abroad for the next two years... We've dated now for about three years..." He has no other option but to speak the truth and with it, he holds his breath. His heart is racing and there is a feeling of fear and dread.
In his head, he has played out many of these scenarios. Things that he can say if his parents reject them. He has tried to harden his heart several times and tells himself that even if they do not accept, even if the blow hurts him he will endure. He will wait for some time before trying again. Even if the result remains the same he will not let go of Kongpob's hand because his heart is already at Kongpob's side.
He's too preoccupied with his thoughts that he does not realize his mother and father have both stood up from their chairs and are at his side. It is only when he feels his mother's embrace that he jumps in surprise and his father is also by his side hugging him tightly.
"Nothing changes. Who you love has nothing to do with us loving you." Tears begin to fall down his eyes. A wave of relief washes over him as he hugs them back tightly.
"I know everyone needs their time to say things. But son, there was no reason to fear our reaction. You have always made us proud. Nothing that you can ever say or do would ever change that. You are our only child our most precious gift that god has ever given us." Arthit clings to his father's hug and he once again feels five years old clinging to his father the way he had when he needed him or did not want him to go.
