Y/N's P.O.V
"Y/N? Y/N!" I turned away from the squeaky voice and pulled my blanket over my head, a quiet yet powerful action to ward off further commotion. "Y/N, wake up! We have to attend class soon!"
"Class?" confused with the choice of words, I slowly sat up. In front of me, wearing a light pink frock, was a girl with brown hair in pigtails, dark brown eyes glistening with excitement and a toothy grin about her face. I watched her unblinking. I knew this girl. I had always known her in my heart.
"Y/N, you are late again! Tanaka-san said if you don't come down in the next ten minutes, she won't serve you breakfast! She brought cheese today! Come on!" she groaned, almost crying as her tiny hands grabbed mine. I was hauled off the bed, falling face down on the wooden floor. Still unsure of what was happening, I stood up abruptly only to notice that I was in a large, rectangular room with six other beds aligned perfectly against the wall. A small washroom at the end corner, already occupied by other girls who were brushing their hair into perfect little buns. Birds chirruped and in between, my friend was whining and complaining at the top of her voice. A perfectly unmatched cacophony one truly didn't wish to hear early in summer morning.
"I had a weird dream. I was in a room and then..." I mumbled, "Wait, Naomi. Cheese? Tanaka-san got us cheese!"
"That's what I am telling you! Silly! Saaya already went down and I am sure she is stuffing her mouth with it"
"Why didn't you wake me up earlier!? Naomi!" I cried as I jumped up and dashed inside the bathroom, startling the other three girls who were nonetheless angry at the sudden appearance. I quickly dragged a small stool and positioned it near the sink. Carefully balancing on two feet I came face-to-face with the mirror, showing my round cheeks and a tiny black drawing at the corner. I faintly gasped noticing the poorly drawn pig on my left cheek. Last night, Saaya and Naomi, with me, had decided to paint small animals on each other's faces as a way of passing time. But unlike the other two I had forgotten to wash off the black ink before going to bed and now, there wasn't much time left for me if I wanted to eat breakfast.
"Hurry! Hurry!"
"I am!" I gurgled water as fast as I could, not even looking twice at the mirror as I hopped off the stool. My tiny hands tried tying my hair into one messy braid, with hair falling down the sides and middle. Naomi ran next to me, offering her hand as we rushed down the stairs alerting everyone in the house that finally we were coming to join for breakfast. As soon as we passed the hallway and into the kitchen, I was stopped by a large figure who had her arms crossed. Yua Tanaka, the mistress of Vibrant Leaves, had her face darkened at the mess I presented. Her cunning eyes and grey hair were naturally thin, despite not being traditionally hailed as beautiful, there was something in the air of her walk – the way she conversed and represented her status was enough to let people know that she was a fearsome thing to behold.
"Messy braid, toothbrush under your lips and a pig stamp on your cheek. Did not even have the decency to change your dress from yesterday" she sighed, "It's been seven years since I had you and you learned absolutely nothing"
"In my defense, I was a victim of abuse" I pointed to my cheek once more while Saaya and Naomi giggled.
"Just go to your seat and eat breakfast. If you fail to wake up by seven tomorrow, no snacks for you!" she bellowed.
