-- alright so another quick note from dear old me. i will be wandering through character interactions one by one, so each chapter will be labeled with a character's name. this does not determine the point of view the chapter is written in. each chapter will be following the main character, Jeyne. i hope that makes sense lol. i also want to say that the Aegon in this story is not the same from the show. he has his issues but i have completely voided the r*pist from him. --
Aegon Targaryen
"Do you ever feel as if you're being suffocated here, Jeyne?"
I could feel Aegon's eyes on me as he spoke. His stare was not intense in any way, but it was still obvious nonetheless. How in the world was I supposed to respond to such a question as that? I stayed silent for a moment, my eyes remaining tilted up to the clear blue sky. Slowly, I drew in a slow breath. The sound of rustling leaves echoed around the two of us as a breeze gusted through the field, shaking the tree we laid under.
"I suppose... there are times when one may feel at loss of breath."
My response was vague, yes, but to be fair I had no clue how to answer the prince. I moved from my back and turned over to my side, now facing him. I was right, of course, his eyes remained locked on my face. I gave him a small reassuring grin. I could hear the thoughtful tone in his voice as he spoke, which was a rare sound coming from Aegon. In an attempt to lighten the tense conversation, I spoke again.
"Are you drunk, Aegon?"
His face visibly twisted as I asked my question. He rolled his eyes as he let out a light scoff, shaking his head softly.
"How could you even suspect such a thing from me. I'm offended," he replied, his eyes darting up to the sky before dropping back down to me.
A mischievous grin began to form on his face as if he were trying to hint that he wasn't actually offended by your accusation. He had no right to be offended, anyways. It was a valid question. He suddenly sat up, his back leaving the trunk of the tree. Aegon jumped to his feet, holding his arms up triumphantly.
"Could a drunk man do this, dearest Jeyne?" he asked me in a loud, joking tone.
Aegon's long, curly hair blew lightly in the air as he stood tall only a few feet away from me. I remained laying against the large tree's trunk. I crossed my hands in my lap and tilted my head to the side slightly, my eyebrow arching as he spoke.
"A man, you say? That may be a slight stretch."
Aegon narrowed his eyes at me before suddenly reaching forward and taking both of my hands into his. He pulled me up to my feet, earning a loud laugh from me and a small head shake. He grinned widely, letting go of my hands once I managed to stand and regain my balance. Aegon's eyes drifted back up to the sky after a few seconds, turning slowly as he seemed to follow the movement of the clouds. His back now faced me.
"I hope I do not suffocate you."
The ecstatic expression on my face began to drop slightly at his words. Did he truly think that he exhausted me so? Sure he could be a lot at times, but not once had I ever truly felt tired of him. Though Aegon did have plenty of his own flaws and issues, he always seemed to have a more positive attitude. That could also be thanks to alcohol, though.
"Do not say such a thing, Aegon."
He turned slowly towards me after I spoke. The tone of my voice was assertive and serious, though there was a tint of sadness residing within it. I stood still as his eyes met mine again. His expression was quiet and calm, completely contrasting the almost angry look I held. Aegon let out a soft amused breath, the grin on his face making me want to strike him right there on the spot.
"So be it," he responded simply, giving a small bow as he spoke. And that was the end of it.
The two of us continued to watch the clouds pass, the sound of idle chatter and random jokes being the only sounds present on the meadow. We had been friends since we were old enough to talk. Eleven years old and thirteen now, we remained as close as ever. If I were to be truthful with myself, I would say that I was closer to him than most anyone else I knew. The only competitor for that title would be his younger brother, Aemond, though we had a different relationship.
