Aegon Targaryen
I have known Aegon Targaryen for years now, and there are still so many things I do not know about the boy. He's a confusing character, for sure. An alcoholic, yes, but there seems to be so much more buried somewhere deep underneath. My mind flashed back to that question he had asked me by under that large tree. That was one of the first times I had seen Aegon so vulnerable. I laid awake in my bed thinking over it.
I could see the sun peeking through the curtains of my chambers, which was probably what had woken me up in the first place. My moment of thoughtful silence was interrupted by a loud banging noise coming from my door.
My eyes widened quickly and I leapt up from my bed, scurrying quickly across my floor. The banging continued, getting more rapid over time. There was a horrified expression on my face as I reached for the door handle, beginning to open the large wooden door. I only managed to crack it slightly before a figure shoved through into my room.
It was Aegon, of course. He quickly slammed the door behind him with his back, keeping his body pressed against the wood. His breathing was rapid and uneven, his eyes widened to the size of golfballs.
Aegon was already dressed in his everyday clothes, unlike me. I wore my usual nightgown, my hair frizzed upwards slightly from a good night's sleep. I stared wide-eyed at Aegon, though his gaze did not meet mine once. He kept his back pressed against the door as he stared to the side, his right ear keeping close to the hallway. There was a long moment of silence before Aegon finally let out a harsh breath of relief, his body suddenly relaxing. He took a few steps away from the door before turning his head down to face me. He stared for a second before letting out a quick.
"Oh-"
Oh? He spoke as if he had forgotten I was there in the first place. Did he even know who's room he was going into before he started rattling on the door? An unamused expression formed across my face as I crossed my arms in front of me. Aegon let out a nervous chuckle, his hand moving to scratch the back of his head. His eyes shot briefly down to my nightgown before looking me back in the eyes.
"Did I wake you?" he asked with yet another small, rattled chuckle. My face deadpanned at him, causing the boy's expression to scrunch nervously. Aegon made a quick, "Mnn," sound with his throat as his eyes began to wander around my room aimlessly, his feet shifting lightly under him.
"Are you not going to explain to me what exactly it is you are doing here?"
My voice was straight forward and obviously annoyed, causing Aegon to snap out of whatever little trance he was caught in. His gaze shot back to me quickly and he cleared his throat before speaking his reasoning.
"I might have... maybe... tripped Cole outside of his chambers..." Aegon responded slowly, his eyes squinting as he tried to form a smile on his face. "... On accident," he added quickly.
My face remained still as I tried my best to process what he was telling me. As soon as it clicked, I burst out into laughter. Aegon's eyes widened at me before he slowly joined in with his own chuckle. Tears formed in the corners of my eyes as I continued to laugh, my hand moving to wipe them away. After a few seconds the laughter finally slowed.
"So you spent this beautiful morn running away from Ser Cole?" I asked with a giddy expression on my face. I couldn't get over the idea of Aegon having to run away from that man.
"And you spent it asleep?"
I rolled my eyes at the boy before walking up to him and lightly pushing him out of the way of the door. I opened it wide with one good swing, making Aegon flinch beside me. We both poked our heads out of the doorway, looking down one side of the hallway then back down the other.
"I think you'll be alright," I mumbled up to him before glancing over and giving him a quick nod. We both stepped out of my room and out into the corridor. I just couldn't help myself, I wanted to see an angry Cole so badly. Aegon's posture straightened slightly once he realized the coast was clear, looking down at me with a casual grin.
"There you are."
A sudden voice emerged from the far end of the hallway. Both of our heads snapped in the direction of the sound, equally horrified expressions on both of our faces. Ser Criston Cole stood still at the end of the corridor. His chest was visibly heaving under his pajama shirt, which was basically just a rag. I let out a short snort, covering my mouth with my hand at an attempt to not burst out laughing again. This was what he was chasing Aegon in? Cole's eyes shot dangerously in my direction, looking at me like he was waiting for a reason to drag me into this too. There was a short moment of horrible silence before Aegon suddenly reached out towards me, ripping my hand away from my mouth and pulling me in the opposite direction of Cole.
"Run!" he bellowed out. I barely had any time to react before I was being dragged down the corridor. I could hear Cole's loud stomps behind us, which only made my heart race more. Aegon picked up speed quickly, basically just hurling me behind him. It felt like if I suddenly jumped I would just fly behind him like a cape.
"Aegon-" I blurted out, trying my best to get the boy to maybe lower his speed to a slow jog. He completely ignored me, though, continuing to weave us between the hallways and the people walking calmly through them. I could feel the eyes on me, which made my stomach drop.
After what felt like years of running, Aegon finally pulled us around a corner. My back hit the cold stone with a light thud. My breathing was incredibly rapid, though it was nothing compared to Aegon's. He had his back to the wall as well, his head turned to peak around the corner in hopes of catching a glimpse of Cole walking away. He would not be so lucky, though. After a few moments, his breathing seemed to calm back down again. He let out a harsh breath, turning back towards me with a smug grin. That grin was quickly wiped off his face, though, as a large hand suddenly emerged from around the corner, grabbing Aegon by the collar of his shirt.
Cole seemed to have appeared from the depths of the seven hells. His face was turning red and his eyes were wide with pure anger. Aegon started thrashing around in Cole's grip, though any efforts he made were completely useless against the man.
"You... three hours of training... now..." Ser Cole mumbled in between deep breaths. The man didn't give Aegon any time to respond before dragging him away to the stairs. To be fair, Aegon did seem to be a little bit out of shape. That put Cole in the same boat too, though, as the man was basically out of breath as well.
I knew I should've just pushed him down the stairs.
