(Y/n)'s POV:
For the remaining wipeout of the bokoblins, me and my parents just hid somewhere safe while those who are still capable to fight stayed back to take care of the monsters.
Presently, everybody goes around helping each other and tending to anyone who is wounded. Mine has been already taken care of by my loving mom when we were in hiding. They're currently lending a hand to those in need whilst I was told to just sit back and relax.
I sigh as I softly caress over the bandages covering my left arm, "This will definitely scar." I said then look up at the others. A small breath of relief escapes me, grateful that no one got seriously hurt.
Then, a familiar voice of my friend rang in my ear in exasperation, "Of all places it has to be us who were targeted! We barely made it out alive! If this continues on we'll be as good as gone for good!" Seeing his distress, I went over to him in attempt to diffuse his qualms, "Hey, don't worry! This won't last forever! One day the hero will come back and we'll no longer need to worry about all of this just as granny said!" he incredulously look at me as if I committed the greatest crime in Hyrule history before a dry laugh escapes him, though it was very brief, "You've been saying the same damn thing for 7 years (y/n). 7 years!" taken aback, I got confused by his sudden outburst, "Wha- What's wrong with that?" I responded calmly to avoid causing him to blow up any further, but to no avail, "Everything is wrong with it! Do you even hear yourself?!" before I can utter any words he abruptly cuts me off once more, "Look around you! Where the hero you spoke so fondly of?! That's right, nowhere to be found! No one is coming for us, (y/n)! No one! He is long dead and will remain dead until the end of time! No matter how much we beg Hylia, this is still the result we get. Get your mind out of the gutter, (y/n)!" with that said he promptly stomps away, some of my other friends either just went with him or hesitated at first before ultimately joining him as well.
Tears slip down my face because I know...I know that he was right. But...
I wipe away the tears, some still manages to slip through but now a determined gaze took place. He is wrong about holding on to hope. Because no matter how long it takes, I'll always wait for his return but before then, I shall take it upon myself, from here on out, to continue the hero's legacy.
Turning on my heels, I march towards the direction of the adventurer. It just so happens that my parents are there speaking with him. Once I was close enough for them to notice me, I quickly make my point clear, "Sir, please teach me swordsmanship." the reactions they gave was one of astonishment and disbelief. Although, my parents clearly didn't took my message that well, "(Y/n), what in the world are you on about this time?!" my dad exclaimed and I completely understand where he's coming from. "Are you being serious right now, (y/n)?" my mom asked to which I firmly nodded with determination written all over my face while my eyes never left the adventurer. With a raised brow, he briefly looked me over in observation before he heartily laughs. He bent down slightly to ruffle my hair which left me slightly dumbfounded. "Heh, I like that look on your face kiddo, but to be honest, I wouldn't recommend it. The life of an adventurer is not an easy one and you're technically putting your life on the line just by simply exploring. There are some nasty creatures out there you don't want to run into. So, in conclusions, I politely decline."
I wanted to retort but my mom pulls me to her side, effectively cutting me off, "I'm sorry for my daughter's behavior. She has always look up to the hero." The adventures chuckles and waves off the comment, "Oh no~ I totally understand! Even I look to him!" I perked up when I heard those words but as quickly as it came, it also went away when he said the following line, "Buuuut, it'd be best that you listen to your parents kiddo. You're still young and impressionable. You'll soon realized that this moment was all just a spur of the moment. Well then, I gotta get going now. Take care kiddo." he patted my head one last time before leaving my village.
My dad softly sigh, "I want to ask you why you did that but I'll let it slide considering he could be right about it being a spur of the moment. Come on, let's head back."
.
.
A couple of days has passed since the accident at my village and during those times I wasn't allowed to leave the village as I was still recovering. It was boring for the most part but the company of the villagers, Sterling and the other horses helped me pull through. Then, as soon as I got the ok from my dad, I was flying away from the village with Sterling, who also recovered well from his wounds.
Leaving Sterling to do whatever he please, I walk around the forest on my own to clear and relax my mind. Though, it was easier said than done. "I could train hand to hand combat.....but if that's the case if I do encounter one of those monsters I'm screwed since they mostly use weapons.......You know what." I proceed to grab a random stick that was decently heavy, "If I can't learn from the adventurer or from anyone, then I might as well do it myself." with that, I began swinging the stick around, the memories of the accident playing in my head. My failures, the sad faces of the villagers and my parents.
I'll protect you all.
