Germany grumbled as a staff member woke them up, looking up at Canada who was smiling and gently waking up the other countries in the train compartment. He looked outside at the barely rising sun as Italy and Japan woke up. Japan immediately started to dress into her school clothes and Italy turned over in their sleep to try and get a few extra winks in, which didn't work when Japan threw a pillow into their face.
He chuckled, opening up his suitcase and starting to put on his own uniform, making sure the badges were straight before needing to sit down to put on his shorts, Italy was awake enough now to help him with his prosthetics, which was not needed but accepted the help with grace anyway, though whilst putting his prosthetics back on, Italy somehow got them mixed around and one of them back to front. Chuckling a little bit, he would put back on his prosthetics (this time, the right way around) before finishing up his tie. Once he was finished, he would sit back down, going back to looking out of the window and watching as the fields would soon get greener and greener. The train that they were on was nearly a 24-hour ride, but it was worth it - the school was on an uninhabited island called Scarba, just off the coast of Scotland, and it was repurposed to be a safe schooling place where there was almost no danger of humans getting hurt, even when a country went out of control with a bloom of their powers. The humans that lived on the islands near Scarba were given extra jobs by the local governments, including lookouts for invaders and simply helping to upkeep the massive school. Currently, they were on the underwater rails, between the mainland of Scotland and the coast of Scarba.
Japan would grab their breakfasts from the trolley, sliding them onto the table in front of them just as Italy was finished dressing minus their tie. Germany would sigh, taking Italy's tie and tying it himself for Italy as they immediately started to scoff at their food. He would chuckle at this display before giving them their tie back and slowly eating his bowl of cereal, still slowly waking up and occasionally rubbing his eyes to try and not drift back off to sleep. It was hard, but eventually, with a hot coffee, he was able to wake up some more. Whilst they were watching Italy devour yet another plate of hot breakfast, Germany and Japan got to talking among themselves.
"How was your sleep, Germany?" Japan would ask, fixing his uniform and making sure that everything was sitting just right and exactly to her standards.
"It was okay...rocky, though...I hate sleeping on trains, I can never get a full night's sleep....what about you, Japan? I did hear you getting up and down all night." He would look at her, worried for her.
"Ah, don't worry about that, Germany, I could feel my powers wanting to itch...it's near full moon, so the first week of school is going to be very interesting for me, isn't it?"
"Ah, that's right...your powers awoke during the summer break...now I'm the only one with no powers." He would sigh, half sarcastically. Japan was a werewolf, not just in the traditional sense either, but it did hurt for her to turn and this year was mostly going to be about how to keep it under control under stress and emotional situations. Can't have her randomly turning into a wolf in the middle of a UN meeting.
It just hurt that little bit more for Germany. He was indeed the only one without powers now and was probably going to be mocked relentlessly for it. Especially by some of the bigger countries, and probably Japan's cousins too. All he had to do was just try and get through this last year of schooling, and graduate, and then he'll be away from some of these countries that relentlessly push and shove him around. That's how he got this prosthetic, a few years ago, a couple of countries (but mainly China and America, when she was still a student) were 'teasing' him, aka shoving him down three flights of stairs, and his leg got caught in a side rail and snapped in 5 different places. WHO said that because of how it was broken, it was never going to be walkable again and so they amputated it. He still wasn't a good walker, but at least he could kind of hop/jog along whenever he needed to run. It was very awkward though, and he needed a new one since he grew over the summer.
He felt a tap on his shoulder and looked up at Japan, who had been talking to him for the past 10 minutes but he had zoned out. "A-Ah...sorry, Japan, I uh..."
"It's okay, Germs...what's going on? Are you thinking too much about what's going to happen?"
"Something like that..." He would sigh and look over to Italy, who was packing their bags. "I'm just worried that something is going to happen to me, now that...you know, I'm the only one in the school with no powers..."
"It'll be okay." She gently pats his shoulder. "I promise, you have myself and Italy, and America can't hurt you now that she's a teacher, though that pisses me off to no end..."
"Probably paid her way as per usual..." He would slowly stand up before packing his bag up, finishing just as the train ground to a halt. The bags would be collected by one of the teachers who would put them in the appropriate rooms, so all they had to do was take themselves to the halls. He made sure he had his phone and pepper spray in there, just in case something happened, and the three of them started to walk towards the castle.
They were talking amongst themselves, wandering towards the front gates, when Germany noticed something strange. There were usually a whole group of people in front of them, but one country was alone, just walking as per usual. He sighed, deciding to walk up to him, and gently placing a hand on this country's arm, he would halt him. "Hi-oh, Russia...hi...where are all your cousins?"
Russia normally walked with quite a few of his cousins, usually Kazakhstan and a few more from the East, but today he was all alone. "Ah, well, th-they all went on before me, so...I g-guess I pissed them off again...s-somehow."
"Well...do you want to walk with us? I promise Italy won't bite unless you smell like french toast."
Russia cracked a smile at that and agreed to walk alongside them, quiet and just observing the three of them chattering together and sometimes asking Russia for odd opinions on things, but he would give a one-word answer and continue listening. He was glad for a break from talking, he didn't like it and he didn't usually have a lot to say, that and his stutter made him a selective mute at most times, but for some reason, he felt a little more comfortable with these countries than with his usual group of cousins. He chalked it up to them not prodding into his life, and carried on to the mess hall, ending up beside them on the tables.
