Eddie entered the room confidently... maybe even over doing it a little... At first, he looked serious, but when he looked around, observing our choice of decoration for the final game of the campaign, the corners of his mouth curled into a smirk. "I like what you've done with the place."
"It's the end of the campaign. We wanted it to look nice." Gareth explained.
"Well, I'm glad you're so excited about this," his expression turned mischievous, "because I don't think you're going to survive." My friends tensed and the air seemed heavier.
For a moment, Eddie's eyes met mine and I felt the weight of the world fall on my heart. I quickly diverted my sight and walked over to my assigned place... which was next to the Dungeon Master. People seemed to be pressed as they followed my actions and took their places. Gareth took advantage of the movement around the room and approached Eddie as he walked to take his seat. My friend took the opportunity and quickly whispered something into Eddie's ear. As he was being told some unknown information, I could sense he was trying his best not to steal glances at me. I pretended not to notice. I didn't wish to find out anything else that was none of my business and would upset me... such as this afternoon's incident. And even though I tried to mind my business, I couldn't help but wonder what had Gareth shared with him.
"Where's the rest?" Eddie said as soon as Gareth stepped away. He was looking at me, as if I knew where Dustin was all the time.
"No clue." I responded dryly, looking him in the eye. Chatter could be heard from the hallways. People has started to arrive for the basketball game. Eddie took a seat and made a failed attempt to seem concentrated on his papers. The rest of the boys were suspiciously taken by Gareth to one side of the room, away from us two.
"Hey, L/N?" Eddie muttered, looking up from his papers. "At the end of the game... I think we should talk."
"You think, Munson?" I failed to keep it cool.
"Yeah. We should."
"Fine-" The classroom door opened and three people stepped in. My brother, Mike and... a child. The boys walked next to Eddie to get a better view on the new sacrifice (as we called new members).
"We're here. Sorry for being late." Mike apologized. "We brought the substitute." A cold silence followed. Eddie observed the girl.
"Absolutely not." He declared.
"You asked for a sub. We delivered." Replied Dustin.
It turned out that Dustin and Mike had brought Lucas's sister, Erica, who turned out to have... quite some nerve. I must confess her encounter with Eddie had been quite heated and amusing to me. I tried as hard as I could not to laugh when Erica made witfully comebacks. In the end, Eddie found Lady Applejack quite amusing as well and accepted her in Hellfire. Thankfully she was high leveled and experienced, which helped her convince Eddie. Honestly, if he had said no, I would've left Hellfire and would've founded a new club with her as leader.
The game was... something. Eddie introduced the scenery with quite excitement. I know I was mad at him, but he was still an amazing narrator, wrapping us helplessly in the story he created and causing emotions in each player. My hands shook with nervousness and the room reeked of uncertainty. Everyone's absolute attention was on the Dungeon Master.
Seven heroes stood before a cultist crowd.
"Hail Lord Vecna... Hail Lord Vecna..."
The figures turned to the heroes and removed their hoods, revealing familiar faces from Makbar. All but one... a figure with shriveled and desiccated skin, his left arm missing... as well as his left eye.
