New Day

"Toshi! Wake up, we're gonna be late!" Sophia called, knocking on the door hard. She wanted so bad to use her quirk to make him burst from the room singing Wake Me Up by Avicii, but Aizawa frowned upon them using their quirks for their own desires like that. 'It wasn't a rational action if you wanted to be a hero', he'd said. Sophia was inclined to believe him.

Hitoshi muttered that he'd be down in a minute and asked her to start some coffee. Sophia rolled her eyes and walked toward the stairs. Hopping down the stairs eagerly, she was glad she had been able to wear pants and not a skirt. One, she would get less unwanted stares and two, she could move a lot freer. The UA jacket, white button up, and red tie were the only things she really liked of the girls outfit. Probably because it was the only thing the two outfits shared.

"Morning Little Listener," Present Mic said as she rounded the corner with a swing around a pole. Her backpack shimmered with the motion.

"Morning Mr. Yamada," Sophia said as she walked over to the coffee pot, only to see it was already on. "I see you've started the coffee."

"I've been living with these two for a long time, so I know what they need to function in the morning," he laughed. Sophia was still bouncing around like she had just drunk the entirety of the coffee pot, a faint orchestra being heard. "You sure are happy today." In truth, it was the happiest she'd been since arriving.

"Of course I am! I am in the best hero school in Japan, probably the whole world, and I'm in the hero course!" The orchestra suddenly got louder and Sophia began to sing. "It's the best day ever!" A ghost chorus sang softer, best day ever.
"It's the best day ever!" Again the ghost chorus sang backup. "I'm so busy got nothing to do,
Spent the last two hours just tying my shoe," Present Mic chuckled as she held out her foot and pointed to her shoeless foot. She wouldn't put on her black shoes until she left, and different white ones inside the school. "Every flower, every grain of sand," She didn't notice either Hitoshi or Aizawa coming down the stairs, nor the fact that the musical orchestra suddenly stopped. She just kept singing. "Is reaching out to shake my hand-"

"Stop," Hitoshi said, sitting at the counter and waiting for a cup of coffee. Aizawa passed behind her, getting two coffee cups and filling them. After he handed one to Hitoshi and took a sip of his own, he put some eye drops in his eyes.

"It's too early for this," he muttered.

"Besides, that song is overrated."

"Hey!" Sophia yelled, putting her hands on her hips and glaring at him. Though he was taking a drink, Sophia was sure he was smirking.

"Hey, lay off her a bit," Present Mic said, sliding an arm around Aizawa and gave him a peck on the cheek. "She's excited." Aizawa sighed, but Sophia knew it wasn't out of annoyance. Hitoshi's scoff however, was annoyance. She knew why. He had wanted to get into the hero course as well. Hitoshi aced the written part, but never got past the practical. Sophia nearly failed the written part and mostly got through the practical by rescue points alone. She heard another person did the same and was curious to meet him.

"Ya know, I'm not that excited," Sophia said, trying to tone down her excitement. Hitoshi studied her for a moment, then rolled his eyes.

"Yeah right," he muttered, taking another sip. "Be proud. You got in."

"You should have as well, Toshi. Mr. Aizawa's right. I only got because my quirk is flashy."

"And you saved a bunch of people."

"Doesn't matter. The whole choosing thing is messed up." Aizawa smiled a little at that. At least someone their age understood it.

. . .

"New country, new school, new day," Sophia muttered before ducking into the classroom. The amount of students that were just messing around was enormous. Though there were a few that caught her eye, simple because they weren't being rowdy.

A boy with half red half white hair, a grey eye and a blue eye staring blankly at a paper on his desk. Already at it with the studying, she thought. And he wasn't the only one. A beautiful girl with raven hair was looking through a book, the subject unknown to Sophia. She was still struggling to learn Japanese. Mic was doing his best to teach her, but it was hard. There was a boy with tentacles- or bat-like skin- was just staring out the window.

The last one she noticed right away was a person with a black bird head and yellow beak. He seemed to be conversing with someone, but she couldn't see who.

"If you've come here to make friends, then you should just leave," a voice said from the hallway. A very familiar voice.

Mr. Aizawa was her homeroom teacher. That wasn't going to cause problems.

Walking in, Aizawa only glanced at her for a moment. Did he know this was coming?

"My name is Shouta Aizawa, I'm your homeroom teacher. First, there's roll call," He said, looking over his papers. Sophia couldn't help but give a tiny chuckle at the bright yellow sleeping bag that lay on the floor just behind him. She often found him on the couch or just laying on the floor in it. Even tripped over him once. "Something funny over there?"

"No Mr. Aizawa, sir," Sophia stammered. The kids around her snickered and her face turned red. One guy with spike blonde hair and red eyes and kinda looked like a pomeranian glared at her. Despite her red face, she returned it. Aizawa sighed and looked at his list.

"Well, while the interruption wasn't needed, this presents an opportunity. This is Sophia Aizawa." Every head that hadn't turned already now did. Sophia stopped her glaring match with the pomeranian and looked around nervously.

"Hi," she said stupidly. A snicker came from behind her.

"She is my daughter but don't think that she will get special treatment. She will have the same opportunities as all of you will, provided she try as hard. Now Mina Ashido-"

Angel tuned out the rest of the roll call, opening a book instead. Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. A book series Present Mic and Aizawa got her just after she was adopted. She'd been so busy adjusting, she hadn't gotten time to read it yet.

"Aizawa." Aizawa called. That wouldn't get weird. "Please put the book away. This isn't english." Her face became red again as she heard more mutters and snickers.

"Yes sir," she said weakly.

"Anyway, most classes are doing the orientation right now. We aren't."

"Called it," Sophia muttered, luckily low enough no one heard. Except maybe the tentacle-bat guy, but he didn't seem to want to mention it.

"We will be doing exercises to determine your skill level. You will be ranked by how well you do. The one ranked at the bottom will be expelled." There was an uproar at that, but he ignored it, telling them to get in their PE uniforms and meet him outside.

It was a hard to get through all the exercises, but Sophia managed to get the third one from the bottom. She wasn't getting expelled by her own da- guardian. That would have made this day ten times more embarrassing. But she felt bad for the green haired boy, Midoriya. He was at the complete bottom and he had broken his finger to do the ball throw. According to Occhaco, infinity girl, she had done the same thing for her during the entrance exam. Only he had broken both his legs and one arm.

And Sophia would bet her bottom dollar that he was the other one that made it by with only rescue points alone.

But nothing about the session surprised her. She had been living the entire last bit of winter with him, so she knew how he worked. So when he called the entire expulsion thing a 'rational deception' she knew it was a lie.
