Her face lit up when she saw her dad in the distance. She ran the short distance to envelop him in a hug and he let out a hearty laugh. It was obvious she was a daddy's girl.
"Wow! London really agrees with you." Joe complimented, holding her at arm's length.
"Thank you." she responded in a fake British accent. They broke into laughter as they linked arms and walked towards the lot.
"I hope that's the last trace of britishness on you." he said as he placed her suitcase in the trunk. She shrugged and slipped into the passenger seat. He joined her moments later and drove off. "So how was London?" he asked moments later. She begun recounting all about her trip, the places she visited and the things she did. By the time they got home, she had told him almost everything. She left out her adventure with Noah. That was going to be her little secret. She felt she made the right move, parting without a good bye. It made it easier to leave and probably forget about him. She made up her mind to sort her feelings for him no matter what. She was going to ease back into her old life and pretend she never met him. How she was going to achieve that, only God knew but she was determined and you know what they say about determined women.
Her mum stood at the entrance with an excited look. She opened out her arms and Adeline ran into them as soon as she got out of the car. "I really missed you." she gushed.
Jocelyn pulled back and gave her a one over. "We missed you too. You were gone just two weeks and yet you look great. I guess British food's not so bad."
"Yeah but I still missed your cooking." she pouted as they ambled into the house with Joe following closely behind with her suitcase. He sent it to her room and returned later to find them seated on the couch.
He chuckled fully aware of the interrogation about to happen. "You should let her get some rest. I'm sure she's jet lagged." He said to his wife. She agreed and let her daughter but not before she made her promise to give her details later.
Adeline thanked her dad for rescuing her and stalked off to her room. It was still as she left it two weeks ago but it felt like it had been months. She plopped down on the bed with a sigh, staring up the ceiling. "Home Sweet Home" she mumbled to herself. She was now miles and miles away from the man she had come to love and there was a possibility she would never see him again. Now who could ever feel excited about that? She rolled over and pulled out a folded paper from the pocket of her bag. It was the letter she had written to give to him but couldn't bring herself to have it delivered. She unfolded it and read over the lines she had written;
Dear Noah,
I wish I could say I made a mistake and that I regret everything that happened between us but I would be lying to you and to myself as well. You gave me the best moments of my life and I will cherish it forever but like everything else, it had to come to an end. Reality set in and I knew I had to leave but it still hurts a lot because I did the one thing you probably didn't want. I caught feelings for you, ones that I don't think will end anytime soon. You must think I'm naïve and that I'm just infatuated but I know it's more than that. I'm sincerely sorry it got to this and I promise to sort them out. You don't need to feel burdened about it because you don't owe me anything. You made your intentions clear from the beginning and I respect you for that. I'd probably be heading back by the time you get this. Have a wonderful life, Mr. Hedlund.
Adeline.
She wiped the tears rolling down her face and placed the letter back in her bag. She had wished him a wonderful life but doubted hers would ever be the same. She may have fallen too deep in the pit she dug with no knowledge of how to get out. Feeling overwhelmed with emotions, she cried herself softly to sleep.

"School bitter school" Eli grumbled from her bed as she unpacked. Besty threw at pillow at her head and she turned to her with a death glare. "Be careful"
"When do you not complain about anything?" Besty teased, sticking out her tongue. Adeline joined in the laughter and shook her head at them before returning her focus back to unpacking. School had resumed and she seemed to getting her life back. She had ended her internship two weeks after the trip and couldn't be any happier. Peter was still cold to her until her last day where he wished her luck. It felt more like good riddance but hey she couldn't complain. She was now back in school with all the excitement and headaches and these two crazy friends.
"So how was your holidays?" she asked to get them to stop bickering and it worked. Besty swooned and sat on her bed with a dreamy look.
"I met a guy..." she begun garnering their interest. "He was hot, I kid you not. His name was Jeff..." she recounted their summer fling with very suggestive wiggling of her brows. Eli just threw her dirty looks while Adeline smiled sadly. "So what did you do in London, Addie?" she asked with interest after she finished.
Adeline shrugged nonchalantly, "Nothing really. Just sightseeing and stuff. I already told you."
"So you didn't grab any British boy to bring home?"
"Nope! There was scarcity." They broke into laughter and moved on to another topic. She was glad her friends didn't press on. After all what happens in London stayed in London. She was determined to move on and the way she knew was to pretend it never happened at all. That was left of London was in her head and she was going to leave it that.
