This was bullcrap, all that these people were saying were nonsense and that made Noah agitated. He couldn't believe he paid all of them to spew nonsense at a crucial time like this. Unfortunately, the rumours surrounding him was taking a dire toll on the company. Some major investors and clients were threatening to pull out if that mess wasn't cleared up soon and he was honestly coming up short on answers
"I think the girl must go." one board member boldly declared making the entire room fall silent
"And which girl are you so generously talking about, Mr. Hugh?" Noah asked calmly but it was obvious he was mad
"He's right, you know." his vice president, William Morgan interjected rescuing the poor man who was sort of regretting his loud outburst. Noah turned his glare to him but he continued anyway "The fact that Miss. Quaye works here is detrimental to us all. Your wife is making an issue out of it and unfortunately our clients and investors are buying it. If we don't do something about it soon, we're gonna get hit hard." The other board members nodded in agreement and Noah couldn't help but find the logic in it. This was why Will was his vice president, he wasn't scared to contradict him like the others.
"I think we should continue this meeting another time" he said after a moment of silence.
"But Noah..."
"No buts, this meeting's dismissed. Will, come with me." He stood up abruptly and walked out leaving the rest in a frenzy. Max followed closely behind as the two men made their way to his office.
"Sarah, I'll not be taking any calls for the time being." he ordered without throwing a glance her way.
"Yes sir!" She looked over at Max who just shrugged and followed them inside. He later came out and walked over to his desk to continue his work.
"He's pissed, isn't he?" He looked up to see Sarah and Tori looking curiously at him. He chuckled and shook his head.
"I don't know" he lied. They gave him the 'do we look stupid' look but he ignored it and focused on his work. Moments later, Will came out with an exhausted look and glanced over at Max.
"Your husband wants you" he smirked and walked off to his office. Smiling, Max stepped into the office to see Noah standing by the glass window.
"They're right, you know!" he offered
"You think I don't know that. Ugh...tell me again why I married that woman" Noah groaned
"Because you were stupid"
"Excuse me?" at that point he'd turn full 180 to face him with an incredulous look.
"Well sir, it doesn't take a genius to see you were extremely affected when Adeline first left and you thought it wise to bury yourself between the legs of another woman to get over it. I know you're a levelheaded man and all but you really can't be mad at your wife because you brought this on yourself. I mean come on, who marries a woman to get over another".Noah had berated himself several times for his mistake but listening to Max scold him was just crossing the line.
"You can leave now,Max" he calmly said and took his seat.
"Yes sir!" Max replied showing no remorse for what he said as he walked out. He was tired of hearing Noah complain and getting mad about his life when he brought it upon himself. He also knew he wasn't getting fired after all he was the faithful wife of Mr. Noah Hedlund.
*******
Adeline had heard the rumours of the company's dilemma as well and the fact that almost everyone saw her as a factor in it. She sat in the cafeteria with Raina munching on a vegetable sandwich.
