Noah paced frantically in the foyer of the house feeling mad for being clueless.
"Calm down! All that pacing is making me dizzy. She's a grown woman and I'm pretty sure she can take care of herself." Rosa stated as she fed Benjie. Noah just sent her an exasperated look and walked outside to wait for Adeline. It was already past ten when he heard the treading of someone's feet against the snow which he soon realised was Adeline. Relief washed over him seeing that nothing bad had happened but he was still angry and didn't hesitate to let her see that.
"Where the bloody hell are you coming from?" he asked in a raised voice. She got startled but said nothing and just tried to bypass him. That only infuriated him but not wanting to cause a scene, he made her go and waited a bit to calm down.
"Where's she?" he asked Rosa when he got inside.
"In her room. Did she tell you what is wrong with her?" Rosa replied looking up the stairs with a concerned look.
"No"
"You should go talk to her."
"What's the use? We both know she wouldn't tell me anything." He sighed in defeat and sat down. Rosa placed Benjie down and gave him his favourite stuffed monkey to play with while she spoke to Noah.
"I know you're in love with her and it hurts to see her being looked down on by everyone but you must and should be her last resort. Yes, she might be mad and not want to talk to you but that shouldn't stop you either. She loves you as well so let her know you'll be there for her no matter what."
Noah looked bewilderedly at his grandmother. "You do know I'm married, right?""Then what're you doing here? Besides I never really liked your wife" A smile broke out on his face as he hugged her.
"I love you grams."
"Yeah, yeah. Now I'm not in the need of comforting. Go!" He smiled and sped up the stairs in a rush. He slowed down when he got to her door. After a minute he knocked but there was no answer so he gently opened it and peeped inside. It was dark but not so much due to light luminating from the moon. He could see her figure in the bed and slow rise and fall of her chest. She was asleep, he assumed and made a move to leave but stopped. She needed him even if she didn't want to admit it. He walked slowly to her sleeping form and gently touched her face. She drawed him strongly to her even in her sleep that he couldn't think of leaving her ever again. That stupid mistake he made of not going after her three and a half years ago haunted him and he was going to correct it. Taking of his suit and shoes, he slipped into bed in a white t-shirt and boxers pulling her really close to him. She moaned and snuggled even closer, resting her head on his chest. He chuckled and draped his arm over her. They both really needed this.
Adeline woke up feeling warm, warmer than usual. Finding it strange yet comforting, she lazily opened her eyes to see the slow rise and fall of a chest. Alarmed, she got up abruptly causing however it was to stir. She looked uneasily at Noah's sleeping form trying to recollect how and when he got there. She leaned in for traces of alcohol scent but there was none. Her conscience was calling for her to wake him up and berating him for jumping in her bed but she just couldn't bring herself to, not with the way he looked so peaceful. The last time she'd being in the same bed with him was three and a half years ago and they were happy then, really happy even if it was just a fling. She sighed and got out of bed gently so as not to wake him up as well. The moon still had its reign over the night and it was quite enjoying it. She went to Benjie's room to check on him before making her downstairs. She didn't bother turning on the lights and went straight to the fridge for a glass of water. Moments later, she heard padded footsteps and waited till she saw Rosa come in view.
"You're up as well?" she stated
"Yeah, I need water." Rosa replied as she stopped near her. She poured a glass and handed it to her.
"You're welcome to join me"
"I don't mean to be nosy but did you and Noah settle things last night?"
"No, I didn't even talk to him last night but I did find him in my bed this morning." Rosa chuckled and finished her glass of water. "But I've been wondering, Rosa..."
"Uh huh..."
"Well I get the feeling you want Noah and I to...uh..."
"Be together? Well yes, honey."
"Why! I mean he's married and has a child on the way. Shouldn't you be worried about fixing his marriage."
"Honey, that marriage was doomed from the start. It was a foolish decision made in a moment of anger. Noah may be a levelheaded person but in cases of emotional frustrations, he's as stupid as they get. You know, I first heard of his engagement in a newspaper. Now tell me, is that the best way to start a marriage. I'm not oblivious to the fact that you love each other and it's only right you be together. Take it from me, honey. Love is everything."
"Thank you, Rosa"
"You're welcome, now please go back to bed. You still look stressed."
Adeline smiled and gave her hug before heading back to her room. Noah walked out of her bathroom as she entered.
"Where were you?" he questioned earning himself a chuckle.
"You know, you need to stop asking me that. I'm not your kid." Noah looked curiously at her to see if she was being serious. He didn't want to start an argument in the middle of the night. She climbed into bed and placed the covers over her while he stood still not knowing whether to join her or not. "Aren't you gonna come to bed?" He didn't need to be asked twice as he slipped in with her but he didn't reach for her this time. It would be awkward now that she was awake. He heard her sigh.
"Noah!"
"Yeah"
"Can you hold me?" His smile grew as he pushed closer to her and draped his arms around her. She pushed closer resting her head on his shoulder. "Good night!"
"I love you" was his response. She smiled sheepishly but said nothing.
Half an hour later...
"Mummy! Daddy!" Benjie screamed as he jumped frantically on them.
"Ugh...just five more minutes" Adeline whined and placed the pillow over her head. She heard Noah laugh and threw the pillow at him. "Get your son outta here please..."
"Oh so now he's my son?" he teased as he draped a hyperactive Benjie over his shoulders.
"Just go!" he laughed and sauntered out of the room.
"I love you too" she whispered to their retreating form.
