My three-day break ended quicker than I would've liked. I didn't want to leave his condo—more importantly, I didn't want to leave his arms or his bed.
It felt too good being with him... away from the judgmental world and its expectations.
He dropped me off at the penthouse, but not before asking me to move in with him permanently.
I was hesitant at first, but one firm squeeze of my ass and I caved like a damn fool.
Later that evening, I headed to the hospital to meet with Dr. Harry after receiving an urgent call from him.
"We received the payment at exactly 3:15 p.m. yesterday," he said with a smile. "So now, we can finally move forward with the surgery."
Luca and I looked at each other, a wave of relief washing over us.
"Uh... Doc, can we know who made the payment?" I asked.
Dr. Harry's expression tightened. He inhaled slowly before replying.
"I'm sorry, Angel... but I can't give you that information. We were given strict instructions not to disclose the identity of the donor."
"That's fucked up, Doc. Why would they hide that?" Luca snapped, eyes sharp with suspicion. "What if this puts our mom's life in danger?"
"Luca," I murmured, placing a calming hand on his arm.
Turning to Dr. Harry, I softened my voice.
"Sorry about that. We're just... scared. We don't know anyone who'd do something like this."
"I understand," he said gently. "But trust me, Angel... this person doesn't mean harm. If I had the slightest doubt about their intentions, I wouldn't have accepted the payment. Now, if you'll excuse me."
He gave us a reassuring smile and stepped out of the office. I sighed and slumped into the chair behind me, overwhelmed.
"Do you have any idea who it could be?" Luca asked.
I shook my head slowly. "I don't have many friends, Luca. Just Red... Mr. Noah... and Jade. And I'm sure it's none of them."
"Jade?" He repeated, brow furrowed. "Who's that?"
Shit. I forgot he's her crush, and she'd kill me if I spilled anything.
"A friend I met at the club," I replied quickly.
His eyes narrowed. "Are you hiding something from me, sis?"
I smiled, brushing it off with a headshake. "It's nothing. Come on, let's go see Mom." I tugged on his arm and pulled him along.
Still, my thoughts spun.
Could it be Nikolai? But I never told him which hospital she was admitted to. And it can't be Raul—he doesn't know, either.
