"Where are we going, Raul?" Angel asked for the third time, her voice tinged with impatience.

Patience was never her strong suit.

"Relax, tesoro," I teased, a smirk tugging at my lips.

"It's not like I'm going to kill you."

"Are you sure about that?" she shot back, her tone playful but edged with suspicion.

"With my eyes blindfolded and no clue where you're taking me, how do I know you're not planning to off me?"

I rolled my eyes, guiding her carefully down the stairs, her hand warm in mine.

"Take off the blindfold, but promise you'll keep your eyes closed."

She hesitated, then nodded. "Tesoro—" I drawled, needing her word.

"I promise, Raul," she assured, her voice softening.

"You can take it off."

She untied the blindfold, her eyes still dutifully shut, her lashes fluttering against her cheeks.

I glanced up to see Mamá, Joanna, Mia, and the others watching from the edge of the backyard, their encouraging smiles bolstering my nerve.

I never thought I'd be here—on the verge of baring my soul, ready to kneel for a woman.

Love wasn't something I believed in anymore, not after Catalina's arranged marriage or Claretta's bold betrayal. But Angel? She's the first, the only, woman I'd ever go down on one knee for.

"Can I open my eyes now?" Her voice broke my thoughts, a nervous edge to it.

I took a deep breath, swallowing my pride. This is for her, Raul. The woman you love.

I pulled the black velvet box from my pocket and lowered myself to one knee, the grass cool beneath me.

"Open your eyes, Angel," I said, my voice quieter than I intended.

Her gray eyes fluttered open, shimmering with tears and surprise as they locked onto mine.

"Raul—"

"If someone had told me six months ago I'd find happiness again, I'd have bet my entire fortune they were wrong," I began, my voice steady despite the knot in my chest.

"After everything I've been through, I thought joy was gone for good. Then you walked into my life, Angel, like a damn miracle."

Her lips parted, a tear slipping down her cheek.

"You brought light to my darkness. Your smile, your laughter, your voice, that intoxicating scent of yours—they filled every empty part of me. You showed me what it means to live again, to feel alive. You captured my heart, and now I'm your willing prisoner, tesoro. I want to spend my life in your hold, to build a family with you, to grow old with you. Will you do me the honor of becoming Mrs. D'Amano?"

I opened the box, the ring glinting in the soft evening light. Her next word nearly stopped my heart.

"No."

I shot to my feet, confusion and pain crashing through me. "No?"

She laughed through her tears, her smile radiant.

"Of course not, silly. Yes, I'll be your wife. Put the ring on already!"

Relief flooded me, my heart pounding as I slid the ring onto her finger, her hand trembling in mine.

I pulled her close, her tears soaking my shirt as I held her, the world fading to just us.
