My guard friends are pretty awesome. The original sixteen newbies from Axota Matamotius (My first field band show, also known as the Laws of Motion)who were in 7th grade in 2010, are now the sixteen (future) seniors in High School for Light to Dark, Dark to Light. (My last field band show). And that's including me. It's pretty sad and awesome at the same time. My last year in the Victor Marching Blue Devils Field Band. In my first season, we won the National Class Championship against our biggest competors, West Genessee. (They ALWAYS win!) Ever since then, we blue devils are trying to beat them again. WE HAVE BEEN WINNING THIRD PLACE EVER SINCE THEN! Last year, Arlington should of won, everyone agrees to that.
Sorry, I've been ranting. My guard friends are mostly my friends (minus the one who is rude to me, I don't know why) and I found out something pretty cool about them: about most of them are fans of Lindsey Stirling. You see, before I found Lindsey Stirling, I never really danced, and you have to dance in colorguard. I never really liked dancing, as I never trained as a dancer. I am clumsy, uncoordinated, and not that flexible. I've never really been in the whole show until The Heist. And it was in March/April/May when I was introduced to Lindsey Stirling. Once I saw Lindsey on YouTube, I changed. I got more comfortable with dancing, with my body, and more comfortable with adding body to flag work. Lindsey Stirling inspired me to be more comfortable with my guard work. I've gotten better at guard, and this year, I might be put in the rifle line, which I've been hoping and working towards since I started colorguard in 5th grade in the cadet winterguard. (Thanks for the Lemonade, Candyland, and So I'm gonna fly (We were fairies). We spin to different songs, like Vida La Vida and Lady Gaga songs (WHY LANCASTER, WHY?!? You did three Lady Gaga songs in a row, with no lyrics, orchestral, and you turned me away from Lady Gaga! In the three years I was in cadet guard!) One day, I hope the Varsity does a Lindsey Stirling song, because they're perfect!)
Wow, I went on about Lancaster ruining Lady Gaga songs for me. Well, when I hear certain Lady Gaga songs, I immediately think of those three shows Lancaster did the three years I did cadet guard. Change the subject, Hannah! OK! If you are wondering about the shows I know about that the Varsity did, I will try to recite them off the top of my head.
2009 (My first year): Cadet: Thanks for the Lemonade; Varsity: Illumination(Carl Sagan Voice-Over)
2010 (Second): Cadet: Candyland; Varsity: Lay Here (Female singing Chasing Cars)
2011 (Third and Last year in cadet): Cadet: So I'm gonna Fly(Music from Kiki's Delivery Service); Varsity: Breathe
2012 (I was not in winterguard): Varsity: Live, Life, Love
2013 (Still not in): Varsity: Synergy
2014: Varsity: Chaos and Order
2015: Varsity: City Lights; Cadet: Unstoppable (Forgot who did that song)
Cadet is missing from some of them because I never watched them. (Their show) And the difference between Colorguard and Winterguard is this: Colorguard is performed outside on a football field with live music, ie the band. Winterguard is performed inside a high school gymasium/indoor track (Gordon Field House at R.I.T) on a tarp which is the floor and is certainly harder because the judges are closer to the floor and can tell if you're performing or not, and is performed to music, like Lady Gaga or Lindsey Stirling.
Ok, back to the original topic. I go off on a tangent sometimes. Lindsey Stirling got me to spin, dance and perform to the judges for field band, because of her videos. And the guard friends I that know who are also fans of Lindsey Stirling I will refer to them by nicknames/last names: Shep, Whip's/Sharon/Whipple/Ripple (One person, many names), Big Cathodie (I forgot how to spell her last name), Bishop, and EMCSquared (We just call her that, no pun intended. Also, that's supposed to be a square like an exponent). Any other nicknames you guys have, I don't know them because I never had to spell them, sorry (Shout out to them). They are also a few of the original sixteen 7th to 12th graders I'm part of. I also know that at least two of my instructors (there's five in all, including the head instructor, I WILL NOT TELL HER NAME! She also never heard of Lindsey) are fans or at least heard of Lindsey Stirling.
Here's my wish and probably impossible desire: I want Lindsey Stirling to come to my school, do an assembly (her hobby of motivational speaking), and meet me and the colorguard. I really want her to come to Victor and talk to us. I will admit, I'm still trying to work up the nerve to send an email to her and tell her about Victor and how I really wish that she comes to my school. HELP ME WORK UP THE NERVE!!! I know that she's coming to New York in June, and I'm going to her concert in Syracuse on June 12th, but I don't have meet and greet passes. (My mom is coming with me). My dad's also coming, but not to the concert, he's just driving me and mom to the venue. AND he's dragging my younger brother (I still want to call him my little brother, even though he's now taller than me by a little bit.) He absolutely HATES that I listen to Lindsey Stirling just about all the time. (Come on Nick, you can't stop me. How can you even hear her through my earbuds?!?) Don't you wish Lindsey actually came to your school?
