Chapter One
A lion pounced on a rock, roaring at the vultures who dared coming to the Den of a Thousand Lions and steal their prey. But the young Leo was not at all scaring at all.
"I swear if any of you come again, there will be no escape!" He roared, snapping at the laughing vultures who took off to the sky.
"Oi, Mythic, will you keep it down?" Lunar the young lioness hissed. Mythic grinned. "Ok, ok!" he laughed, nudging Lunar's shoulder. "But aren't you just so, so excited?" Mythic asked.
Mythic isn't a normal lion, he's a Winged Lion, a lion who has a pair of wings, where each pair wings are different, all around the clan, and each lion will get their own unique wings that contains great power and magic at the age of one. The power chooses its lion.
"I mean, we're getting our wings today! Isn't that SO wonderful?" Mythic cried, jumping on a small tree and hanging his head down the twigs and branches, but most of the branches snapped off as if to say, 'Get off! You are so totally heavy for us.'
"Yep. Totally, annoying-manes!" Lunar said agreeably, grinning at her own sarcasm. Mythic rolled his eyes and jumped on Lunar.
"AAARGH! Get off you great lump of elephant dung!" She cried. Mythic and Lunar laughed and fell on the soft grass.
"Behave, will you?" A shadow approached the grass lands.
"Oh, hey uncle Stone." Mythic chirped, sitting up. His uncle, Stone, has always been strict. That is because his brother, Sunrise's mate, Moonrise is the Queen of Winged lions. Sunrise will be King one day, and Stone is jealous.
"Get ready and behave already." Stone growled. Mythic's eyes widened.
"Are we going now, uncle Stone? "He gasped. "Just go!" Stone roared, spreading his grey wings of dust power. Mythic and Lunar squeaked tragically and dramatically and ran to his father, who's wings lightened up the lea.
"Father! Sunrise, are we getting our wings?" Mythic asked excitedly. He would love to know what happens to the 'Getting-their-wings(!)-lions' although he's seen it a thousand times.
Sunrise smiled. "Come, we have to get ready." His powerful eyes stuck on Stone, who's growling softly.
Mythic and Lunar stood very still as the Winged lions gathered around them.
When all lions have arrived, Moonrise, who's standing with Sunrise on the second Great rock, spoke.
"Lions of Powerland, I welcome you here to congratulate the newly one-year olds Mythic and Lunar, who will be getting their Powerful wings to guide and defend our kingdom today. May the stars and Moon bless you." She granted gently.
"Lunar, please come and collect your gift, your power." Moonrise said. Lunar blinked. Sunrise opened his wings, lighting a path of light.
"Here are your instructions: Follow the light path to the Great Rock, and when you hear the wind and when the sunlight shine on you, roar as loud as you can, feel the power in you, close your eyes and be powerful. Use all your strength and your wings will grow." Lunar nodded. She followed the light shining brightly to the Great rock and hopped on it.
She waited along everyone else. Mythic held his breath. Suddenly, a wind came flowing. The sun rose, brightening Lunar's white fur golden. She opened her mouth, and the loudest roar Mythic ever heard echoed around.
Lunar roared powerfully, and in a flash, she was still roaring with a pair of silvery wings that has stars on it, glowing.
When she finished, everyone including Mythic roared for congregations.
Lunar smiled with pride and looked at her wings in surprise.
"Well done, Lunar, you have received the power of stars! You have the wings of stars." Moonrise called gracefully. "Now fly down to Mythic and watch him." She said. Lunar shivered and took a breath, and so suddenly, she jumped the rock, spreading her wings and flapping them majestically to Mythic.
"Way to go, Lunar!" He cried, looking at her excitedly. "Thanks! You'll do great, too!" Lunar said, smiling at Mythic.
"Now, Mythic, please follow the light path as Lunar did. Good luck." Moonrise called from the rock.
This is it. Mythic thought, I'm getting my gift. My power. Mythic took a breath, heart beating. Thump, thump, thump. But his paws did not move. He closed his eyes and sighed. Lions started muttering to each other. "Hey Mythic," It was Lunar, "Be yourself. It's not at all scary. Just do this. Do this for us." She whispered. You can do this... a voice in his heart told him. Mythic opened his eyes and walked in his father's light path. Slowly, Mythic climbed on the Great Rock. His heart is now like the kangaroos chased be a pack of hungry wolves.
He waited. Silence. Mythic closed his eyes
Then, he felt it, a strong wind whipping across his face, and the sunshine's warmth shined on his golden fur, burning it warm.
He opened his mouth, feeling powerful.
Suddenly, all his worries faded away into the unknown. And then he roared. Loud and fierce. Mythic roared louder using all his strength to push the roar out. Do this for us... Lunar's voice echoed in his head. Do this for your kingdom, Mythic! Do this for Lunar... Mythic thought.
He felt power growing stronger and stronger inside his body, and finally, the wind floated away carrying Mythic's roar.
Lions cheered and roared for Mythic below him. For me. He felt pride.
"Well done, Mythic! You received the power of fire! You have the wings of fire." Mythic was warm all over, he looked back and saw a pair of strong, powerful golden wings shining brightly, like his father's, except orange and gold burning fire were on his wings. They were beautiful and powerful. And they are mine. Mythic smiled. From this day, he has the right to fight for his clan and defend it with his friends! This was the best moment of his whole life.
"Now fly to Lunar, Mythic." Moonrise said, smiling at him.
Mythic did not feel nervous or scared, he felt...powerful and happy. Without thinking, he leaped into the sky, gliding gratefully all the way down where Lunar is.
"Oi Mythic! You did it!" She cried, purring and resting her head on his shoulder. Mythic never felt so happy. He grinned and rested his head on Lunar's shoulder as well.
"Of course, I did, Annoying-manes!" He joked. Lunar laughed. "I don't have manes, you mouse-brain!" She said. Mythic smiled. "Seriously, I couldn't have down it without you." He told her.
