Chapter Seven
Mythic felt coldness of the prison floor stab into his claws.
The air tasted like blood and iron and smelt like dead rats. Mythic felt awfully terrible in the endless tunnels of prisoners, but the ring was still moving forward.
"Mythic; focus!" Lunar hissed in his ears as the flame winged lion bumped sleepily onto a cell. "Hm?" He mumbled, exhausted but worried. The rest of the tunnel they stalked past was silent and creepy. There was no animal there, not even rats scrambling across the floor. Lunar sniffed the air growled. Mythic knew exactly what she was thinking; this was the worst place for any creature to be. It had cobwebs everywhere and the ground was spread with moss, bits of dirt and it was wet. Mythic hated it. He had to shake his paws every few seconds.
"Where is Feather?" Lunar demanded. "This thing only works for one minute; if we don't get to her in time –"
"The spell will fade and maybe a whole army of hyenas will throw us in the prison again and rip the ring apart." Mythic finished with a grin, even though it was nothing funny.
"Oh, do shut up! The hyenas will come if you keep doing that. Besides, it's like you want them to by that tone." Lunar whacked him with her tail and stalked past him. Mythic snorted with rage and marched on to catch up. Finally, the ring stopped.
Then, it fell onto the ground with a 'clink!' echoing down the tunnel. Lunar scrambled to her elbows and picked it up instantly, probably worried like Mythic is. "That's...it? That's where Feather is?" Mythic glanced around, curiosity flooding him. "What?" Lunar gasped, lashing her tail impatiently. Mythic stared at the tunnel. It was no different to the two tunnels before.
"Seriously? Where is Feather?" Mythic's eyes flickered in every direction of the tunnel. "Argh! The spell wore off already!" Lunar hissed, clawing the ground. Mythic's ears picked up, scenting a noise. "Did you hear that?" He whispered, tilting his head up to hear better. Lunar automatically picked it up. "Yes," She growled, her ears timid. Clank, clank, clank, clank, the sound of metal crashed through the tunnel along snarls and roars of a lion. "Feather!" Lunar cried at the sight of what it seems to Mythic that Feather was wrestled by two hyena guards. Feather stopped hissing and looked at the two cubs with wide eyes.
The guards stopped pushing Feather and stopped to stare, too. "Halt!" Yowled the one on Feather's left. "What are you doing –" "Get them!" The other howled at the same time. "What are you standing there? Go get an army, Flesh!"
The other one snapped. So, the first one scrambled away into the tunnel, leaving the lions with the hyena. "WAIT! DON'T – " Before he could finish, the lions pounced on him, and their teeth sank into his fur.
"OW!" The hyena yelped. "Are you guys okay?" She gasped, claws grabbing the hyena's snout. "Yes, we are." Rasped Lunar. "We have to get out of here, before it's too late." Mythic lowered her voice, eyes looking into Feather's. They left the hyena in a cell and flew away, away, away.
